I have some cables arriving today so the Sony and the Mac can both be hard-wired to the router through a switch. I'll give it a try and let you all know if the speed improves.
Great to hear someone else giving this SACD ripping a go. I only use cables direct to the router, as this seems to stop any issues occurring eg speed etc. I was going to do some more ripping via my Windows 10 pc but we have a spell of Betty SWollox weather here in the UK this week, with temps forecast as high as 34 degrees C!!, so will delay that!!
I'm a temperate weather guy, anything over 25 and I'm flagging..o_O

Yeah, I've haven't done any SACD ripping in awhile, but with the D-V titles and others stacking up I need a ripping session.
But, here in California it doesn't seem like summer until it hits 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit (that's around 38 for you Brits) and occasionally will get to 105-110 degrees☀! That's when it feels like you're the one getting BBQ'd instead of what's in the grill.
That reminds me; didn't you promise me some garden pics (remember I'm living vicariously through your garden this year:))

I did pups and I will, although we have recently been plagued by an attack of flea beetles which are munching their way through a lot of peoples hardwork...grr
Mother nature can be very cruel at times!!
OOh I wouldn't be able to handle them temps!!!

Can anyone post a current list of players one can rip SACDs with?
I'd like to learn to do this but first I need to get a ripper that works.....thanks

Same here. We get at least several days each summer where it is that temperature and above. quite unpleasant.

Very happy to have completed my first SACD rip today! However, I'm getting speeds of only 0.20-0.30MB/second. Has anyone else experienced speeds that slow and been able to do something about it? I have a Sony BDP-S590 connected directly to an iMac with a crossover CAT6 cable. The two discs I ripped so far have taken about two hours each. I wonder if going through the router would increase the transfer rate. I'll be gathering cobwebs by the time I'm done at this rate!

I am pretty sure a direct crossover cable would not impede the ripping speed, the cable either work or not at all. The S590 should have no problem with a transfer speed of 3.0+ MB/sec. My guess would be the iMac either software, programs running in the background or the hardware.

Success! After connecting both the Sony and the iMac to the router via ethernet, the transfer rate is attaining speeds of 3.3MB/second.

HOWEVER, I suspect the s-l-o-w speed I initially saw was due to the data being transferred over wi-fi and not over the crossover cable like I thought. I initially configured the Sony out of the box for wi-fi in order to obtain an IP address. When I connected the Mac and the Sony with the crossover cable, I left the Sony configured for wi-fi rather than changing it for a wired connection. I came to this conclusion because when I connected the ethernet cables, I was still getting speeds of 0.2-0.3MB/sec. I then went into the Sony network settings and configured it for a wired connection, at which point DHCP issued a new IP. When I plugged the new IP into the SACDextractGUI, the speed increased to 3.0MB/sec. Hope that all makes sense. o_O Anyway, happily ripping away at high speeds!

My next question: is there a thread here that explains how to edit ripped files, whether from SACD or DVD-A? I'd like to learn how to add silent center + LFE channels to 4.0 files to create a 5.1 that will play in the Acura 3D sound system. I'd also like to rip Neil Young Harvest and transpose the channels for corrected playback.

beerking, thank you for creating this thread! It's been extremely helpful. And thanks to MrSmithers for the off-thread advice about different software options.

p.s. filper, if you're successfully using a crossover cable, I'd be interested to know how you configured the network connection settings on the Sony.

First thing you'll need to do is convert your ripped .DSF files to .FLAC files. I would recommend using either Foobar2000 or AudioMuxer, but there are a multitude of programs that can do this. To swap around or add silent channels, I'd recommend using a free DAW program called Audacity.

In addition to what sjcorne mentioned, for the purpose of adding silent centers and LFE channels, have a look at Homers Multi Media Helper package. You can find a link on this site. You can load entire locations for processing and the MMH will find files in the location with only 4 or 5 channels and add the silent channels as needed. I believe it is windows only though.

Thanks to everyone involved!! Just ripped my first SACD with a BDP-S5100 from eBay. With all the help here it took only moments to set up. Martin
Brilliant and hello boggit. (Martin)
It's always pleasing to see that others have had success.
Always feel free to contribute on a regular basis.

So it's been since last Feb since i've decided to rip some more of my SACD's.

Although the process took me slightly longer than I hoped to get started, as my original USB with the Autoscript has done a disappearing trick. I put it somewhere safe to find again but the trouble is I can't remember where the safe place is!!! Looked high and low. Oh well had to create a new USB with the correct Autoscript….Or so I thought....just goes to show I need to check and double check what I'm doing these days..as I loaded the wrong Autoscript on it and then wondered why it didn't work...I had an earlier version for my Cambridge Audio Azur.

I've now completed 6 successful rips.

I'm writing this in case anyone else has initial set up problems and thinks why me..

YOU ARE NOT ALONE :D

Still using the Sony S4100 Blu-ray player and I have updated it to the latest firmware, with no apparent issues.

Might want to tape that Poltergeist enhanced USB right on top of your 4100:eek:

Hello
I just got a S5100 today (firmware M15.R.0257) and while I tried two USB keys with the three files, the S5100 ignores the bootstrap from the USD (regardless of the on/off etc order). Any thoughts, please?
René

Hi Rene,
Welcome!!,
I too had recent problems with my USB. The most important facts about the USB are as follows:

Is it the older style USB 2 version?

It needs to be completely wiped clean of any other data on it before installing the required Autoscript.

Is the Autoscript set up correctly with the Autoscript folder rooted in the Correct way ..very important that part.

Have you followed religiously all the initial set up procedures as stated in the start of this thread?

To help further can you describe how your setup is configured.

Are the USB properties stating it is Fat32?

Those are my initial thoughts.

Please feel free to discuss further, I'm sure we can all help you find a solution.
