I agree about the artist driven projects having as great a chance as any, yes..though let me be clear, I Never doubted Marshall Blonstein's commitment to Quad/5.1, Ralph.. its just the lack of staying power most recently that slightly troubles me when they were on such a roll, that is all.. they couldn't make the numbers stack up, so they've had to scale back the operation, I understand that, I've some idea of running businesses (albeit not in that industry at all).

also, I feel I have greater faith in my fellow QQ members than perhaps you do.. and why would that be?

well, I have prior knowledge of something you more than likely do not that totally proves your theory otherwise.

so i must insist that QQ is more than capable of clubbing together and pooling resources - including putting their hands in their pockets - in our mutual best interests..
but it is NOT for me to speak about such a thing on the open forum.. maybe Jon would be able to say something on the subject, I don't know.. but for now you will just have to trust me that there is irrefutable proof that such a fundraising initiative could be made to work, as it has been done before.

now.. can we get back on topic please?

I'm sure nobody wants a repeat performance of yesterday.. thanks! :upthumb

Great suggestion..!!!

Thank you :)

(a Quad album that was only ever available in CD-4 vinyl form back in the day too, afaik, with no Q8 option..?)

As long as there are more surround SACDs coming from AF, then I am fine. WR and RTF are not my top choices in quad desirables.

As long as we get one every other month or so, and it's a real stellar titles that it's all good. Warners might pick up the slack some, we'll see.

With you on that.. however, RTF & WR were among my top choices as you know but I've got to keep it zipped on that subject, so we move on.. no Jim Croce (from what 4earredwonder reported back having enquired with his widow) and no Aerosmith either (seemingly priced out by greed) so what's top of your list of suggestions to AF right now, would you say?

Given what's just happened with the Paranoid Quad, I have no faith in Warner/Rhino to deliver any more Quad right now, sorry...

Rather than sulk, I did pre~order Musicmagic on Stereo SACD only because I was always a huge fan of pianist Chick Corea. I'm confident there will be more Quads from AF. I've yet to spin BOC's Secret Treaties and Leon Russell's Shelter People on my main system. Way too busy. Tonight's the Night!

Well I'm not sulking Ralph, I'm angry and disappointed.. but please can we just forget about those WR & RTF SACDs here and now, I'm trying (and so far failing) to keep this thread about AF Surround SACDs, lets all make an extra special effort..? ... pretty please with sugar on the top..!? :D

OK, SUGAR. BTW, any word on whether Santana's Lotus will be QUAD? http://www.minilps.net/images/stories/shop_image/product/santana-lotus-cover-up.JPG

BTW, I AM sulking about The Divine Miss M as that was one of the initial titles I petitioned AF to release on QUAD SACD.....over three years ago.

No idea on AF's Lotus, Ralph, sorry.. at this point I'm keeping an open mind.. admittedly erring more on the side of it being lovely sounding SQ-encoded 2 channel but no news is potentially good news and I'm mostly doing that so I won't be disappointed.. again! :)

Extremely pissed off about the Quad not being included on Warners upcoming Deluxe Edition of The Divine Miss M.. it was that albums last hope for the Quad to be reissued as far as I'm concerned.. onto the ever-increasing list of "missed opportunities" it goes.

I may rename it "The Divine Missed Opportunities List."

"Cos you gotta have.. friends..
if you wanna get the old Quads out again.." :music

I have faith in Audio Fidelity to deliver more Quad SACD.:sun

The past releases in quad and 5.1 have been mostly impressive for a Boutique label.(y)

For me I would love if they could tap into some RCA/SONY catalogue quads...such as Jefferson Airplane or J Starship, or Guess Who, or The Youngbloods.
Most especially prefer the Q8/Q4 only titles from those artists, but would never say no to other's in the RCA QUAD Library.Hoping they can find some in the dust covered aging storage facility.

It is unlikely that the Lotus SACD will be quad ... or for the QQ acronym 'In Crowd', IIUTTLSACDWBQ.

Lotus is a live recording that was directly recorded through an SQ encoder. There will be no discrete multitrack tapes. It is also iffy that the SQ encoding on the master tapes will survive remastering, since the SQ phase information is quite delicate ... so delicate that an SQ-encoded tape would only decode correctly when played back on the deck it was recorded on ... unless a deck with identical azimuth adjustment was used for playback.

The original 2-disk CD set is excellent though, and the SQ encoding seems to be intact. Having said that though, Audio Fidelity has no reason at all to ensure that the encoding is preserved ... unless it is a happy accident that can be sold as a novelty. If you want to hear Lotus in quad, find the CD set (note the "AAD" on the back insert) ... and a good SQ decoder of course.

Which ones are you thinking of FW?

Dragonfly? Volunteers? Red Octopussy? (Or Nilsson's ***** Cats?! Meeoowww!)
(I don't know which of those Jefferson A/S Quads made it out on Q4?)

Personally would like to see a label just reissue the entire Grunt Quad stuff (and the assoc acts of Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Hot Tuna included) in one Chicago Quadio style box and be done with it in one fell swoop, which I would certainly pick up... I'm not sure if the market could support any one of those artists' individual reissues the same way it would a James Taylor Quad, say.. then again I suspect (but wish it were not so) that demand would be pretty low for most of those acts now, who would buy them in 2016?
This ties in with what we were saying the other day on here about the market shrinking since nobody's getting any younger etc..!

Airplane and Starship were quite popular in the US, I might think they could generate quite a bit of interest. I would personally love to see some Airplane or Starship in Quad.... :)

Great stuff, mate, thank you! :upthumb

imho this is what we need, as much input (especially to me, a Brit born as these guys were riding high in the charts across the pond! culturally and musically these bands don't mean diddly squat to me, sorry!) as to what might still have legs in a reissue setting here and now.. clearly some artists will be a trifle over Blueberry Hill rather than on it at this moment in time.. although anyone can make a comeback, unless you're Gary Glitter..

Spookily, these'll be cooking in my kitchen if you fancy a little chow later tonight, Gene..
(Hot Tuna - America's Choice, Yellow Fever, Starship - Red Octopus, Jerry Reed - Lord Mr Ford, Pure Prairie League - Two Lane Highway, Woody Herman - Children Of Lima) :)

Worst of The Jefferson Airplane, Volunteers*, Spitfire, Red Octopus and Dragonfly are all available in QUAD (I have them ALL on dolby b Quad Open Reel). I'm not sure, but I think AF indicated that the Worst of's QUAD masters are unusable. I've also been petitioning AF for that title, as well.

They would definitely be BEST SELLERS for AF.

[*NOT dolby b encoded]

Jefferson Airplane-Worst

Jefferson Airplane-Bark

Kantner/Slick-Sunfighter

Oh and both "*******" J.S.-OCTO, and Harry&John's-pussycats.

Any Q4 only and Q8 from Guess Who, but not limited to that only format, as I do also love "10" and " Best Vol 2", oh hell just give me a great big box set of quad.
(But might have to tap into Friendly Freddie's Loan Shark "For All Your Quad Knees Kneedz") Oi !:upthumb:ugham:

Excellent info, thanks Ralph.

Is there one album among those you have just cited, that you would highlight as having the greatest potential appeal as a Hi-Res/Surround reissue in your opinion at this point in time?

Are you proposing a Box Set of All Guess who Quads, Fizzy?
(or are you just pleased to see us? )

They're ALL, IMO, worthwhile candidates. As I haven't fired up my TEAC QUAD Open Reel w/outboard dolby b decoder (TOO many wires...8 in all) in eons, if memory serves me they were all great sounding discs. Also came across my Doobie Bros. Stampede on dolby b Quad Open Reel as well as Hayward/Lodge Blue Jays. Maybe I should just fire up that sucker.....after all these years. Even have some Tomita Quad dolby b ORs............
