No 4K TV, no 4K player. My receiver does support 4K.Do you have a 4K TV? 4K videos can be ripped and then, of course, you would need a way to playback the rip.

I guess you’ve made that pretty clear. I finally bought a 4K TV on Black Friday. I have a ChinOPPO 203 that I use for playback of ripped media. No 4K TV, no 4K player. My receiver does support 4K.

Oddly however, when ripping discs (on a computer), you do not need a 4K drive, a number of drives are 4K friendly, so a few off the shelf standard blu ray drives can rip 4K if you flash their firmwareYou have to have a 4K player to play 4K discs.
To be absolutely clear, will an older blu-ray player still play a 4K disc, just not as 4K? That is, it's backwards compatible and, for example, you get HD? Or do you get a message like 'Unknown Disc' and a blank screen? I personally don't care if it's not 4K. But I would like the version that includes the whole concert in Atmos.
