No 4K TV, no 4K player. My receiver does support 4K.
I guess you’ve made that pretty clear. I finally bought a 4K TV on Black Friday. I have a ChinOPPO 203 that I use for playback of ripped media.

The new TV replaced my 20+ year old 1080p Sony that I paid 2.5x times the price for, NOT adjusted for inflation. Flat screen TV’s are suppose to have a potential lifespan of 50,000 hours. At that rate, the old TV would have easily outlasted me(in truth, there was nothing wrong with it).

I have a pretty top notch TV and AVR just bought this year, so I'm pretty sure they handle 4K. But my beloved Cambridge Audio is old, does that mean I won't be able to play 4K, anybody know?

And if not, will it still do something like revert to HD, or does 4K simply not play in any form if it's not 4K equipment?

I'd love any knowledgeable responses.

You have to have a 4K player to play 4K discs.
To be absolutely clear, will an older blu-ray player still play a 4K disc, just not as 4K? That is, it's backwards compatible and, for example, you get HD? Or do you get a message like 'Unknown Disc' and a blank screen? I personally don't care if it's not 4K. But I would like the version that includes the whole concert in Atmos. (I think I know the answer, but just going for clarity here.)

An older 2K BD player will NOT play 4K discs. But a 4K player will upsample older BD~V discs to 4K [although not as vivid, of course as REAL 4K]
