Clue #2:

Although a limited number of people have this in common with Montana, it has never stopped hordes of others from jumping on the bandwagon.

Leaving soon for a long trip for a weekend game.
Jumping on the Bills bandwagon.

@cbmmm3 and @JohnN have fallen flat on this clue. Come on folks, certainly there are those of you out there who can do better than them!

Thanks, but fallen flat = Go Jets!

“I’m in love with Montana. For other states I have admiration, respect, recognition, even some affection. But with Montana it is love. And it’s difficult to analyze love when you’re in it.”

― John Steinbeck, Travels with Charley: In Search of America

I can't shake the idea that the Montana reference is QB Joe Montanna. He played for 2 teams that i can recall, San Fran and KC. The Kelly led Bills spanked him with KC in the playoffs one year BTW.

It must be at least related to football, the OP himself aluded to it. And it's another Joe Montana tie in. KC is a cold weather city and they play at home this week. SF not so cold, plays in Miami this week.

In the bag is cold weather ski gear. AR is an avid skiier.

A Google search says the closest skiing to SF is 200 miles away in Tahoe. To my surprise, the KC area does offer skiing. Who knew? Snow Creek is the place that comes up most often when searching. It looks nice.

I haven't figured out the bandwagon comment yet.

I'm leaning toward a skiing trip to KC, maybe a tailgate at the Chiefs game.

Snow Creek is (usually) all artificial snow & definitely all is a beginners green slope. I can't imagine AR having much of an interest in attending this Saturday's game...

OK, the reference in Clue #2 is indeed Joe Montana and not the state. Now, Joe played for at least three teams.

Had you asked the leprechaun, he would have said that we are currently driving through Ohio and spending the next two nights in Indiana.

How many more hints can I possibly give you guys?

Hmmmm. Never been, but I imagined Kansas was flat.

I'd go to a KC game just for the BAR-B-Q at the tailgate. He be interested I bet, especially if it was free or something.

Doesn't he have a son or daughter in a college band or cheer squad or something? I'm probably getting it confused with someone else.

Montanna is a Notre Dame alum. The fighting Irish. Leprechauns... there is skiing around there I'd think. But I also imagine Indiana is flat.

Edit : I wrote this before I read ARs post above
