I can now relate a scary event, that worked out well, in the end.
When AFtP Anniversary Super Deluxe arrived from Germany, I quickly noticed a catastrophic problem with the packaging. Not the shipping containers, those were fine.
But the manufacturing must have gone awry. The sleeves for discs 3 and 4 were glued UNDER the foamy/cardboard divider thing. The sleeve for disc 4 was damaged trying to get to the disc to listen to it. No attempt was made for disc 3. The angle they were glued at precluded leaving the sleeves in place and simply sliding the discs out.
Anyway, I love the Blu-ray and I inquired about a replacement, either to keep the set or flip it sans Blu-ray someday. Amazon.de's written policy is that they'll cover 8 euros of shipping for international orders. The 1st CSA I chatted with quickly offered a "free of cost replacement" and sent me a link for a shipping label. Cool.
Except, when I got to the PO, the label didn't cover postage, which was going to be over $100!
I chatted with CS again, informing them of the postage costs and that I wanted to see, in writing that they'd reimburse the entire cost. They wrote that they would.
So... I mail the package, for $112+.
I pop on to chat and they want to see the receipt, cool. Oh, this is more than the cost of the item, we'll have to refer you to our specialists for their answer. TF?!
It could be that it was a done deal and the CS just couldn't do the refund, but the language used was scary. Anyway, they did reimburse and, due to exchange rate mysteries, even in my favor, at $117+.
The next day (today), the replacement box set shows up. I opened it and examined everything. Fortunately, all is well this time.
Yiiiiggghhh!!!
Even though it all worked out, and I now own the set for $48, I feel like dealing with Amazon overseas on big items is a bit risky.
One CS wrote that "we always cover total shipping costs," but when I asked why their web site says 8 euros I didn't get a meaningful reply.
