Take The A Train by Duke Ellington is our Album of the Week. This is an Analog Tape to Stereo DSD 256 transfer by Rene Laflamme at 2xHD Mastering from master tapes licensed from Storyville Records.

The album is actually two albums in one. The first 6 tracks feature Duke Ellington and His Orchestra from a New York City recording session in 1962. It features a host of Jazz all-stars playing classics including Take The A Train, Satin Doll, Things Aren't What They Used to Be and Blow by Blow. Tracks 7 and 8 were recorded in France in 1966 and feature Duke Ellington performing a medley of his hits on piano along with New World a-Comin', the final track on the album.

When is a sale not worth it...MAYBE in this instance....I saw this deal and thought..."wow....a CD/DVD set from Sting...and now the price is slashed...this is a great deal and I should jump on it"...but then my spidey senses kicked in...maybe I should look and see if the DR numbers are decent...well....this one is "hot" across the board...even the so called "hi rez" download is bad

20% Off Dialogue - NativeDSD Album of the Week!

We have a fine 5-Star Rated album for you this week. Pianist Josep Colom performs the music of Mozart and Chopin on Dialogue. This Eudora Records release is a native DSD 256 Stereo and Multichannel recording – no DXD processing! Hear what a widely praised and applauded DSD 256 recording can deliver. And at 20% Off, how can you refuse this offer?

"Who knows what Mozart and Chopin might have played had they come face to face in or around 1830, if the former had not died so prematurely? They might both have improvised on a given theme, or played together on two pianos. And, given the custom of the day, each would very probably have performed something the other had written.

Had that happened, the results might not have been that far removed from what we hear on this recording: a journey towards an imaginary encounter made reality by the exceptional vision and artistry of Josep Colom: with an improvised ornamentation laden with cross-references, an articulation always at pains not to blur this music’s cantabile nature, and a timbre that rather than maximizing the polarity between the composers highlights a coherent and overarching narrative within which the two go hand in hand. The album leads us gradually from the dazzling luminosity of the first works towards a gathering, mystery-shrouded darkness, and it doesn’t seem to matter much who wrote which piece: along the way Mozart often, literally, turns into Chopin, and vice versa."
-- Luca Chiantore, from the album’s liner notes.

"The product of Colom's original narrative-based program, his stunning interpretations and the artistry of Eudora's DSD recording together produce a truly unique musical experience. Even the booklet's beautiful photographs of roses on a dark leafy background hint at the narrative of the music, the pianistic sequence involving the flux of light and dark. [...] This disc gives pure joy and induces the listener to immediately play it again."

-- John Miller, HRAudio.Net

Intervention Records which very briefly dipped their toes into releasing Stereo SACDs and is now releasing only custom VINYL is currently offering generous discounts on three of their SACD releases [all remastered by Kevin Gray @ CoHEARent Audio from original analogue masters] and custom Vinyl releases, as well:

shipping/handling rates are reasonable, as well. I paid under $4 for three Stereo SACDs shipped via media mail to New York and was charged NO sales tax.

The three hybrid STEREO SACD titles include: Gene Clark: White Light [$15]; Billy Squier: Don't Say No [$15] and Stealers Wheel "Stealers Wheel" [$10] which includes their #1 Hit "Stuck in The Middle With You."

Thanks for that (y) I've ordered all 3 for $40, I hadn't bought them earlier as the overall cost would have been higher, so the reduction has 'covered' the cheapest P&P of $33.96. As it is there will be the 20% VAT of £11.31 on importing to the UK and the £12 tax handling fee, so  £56.56 + £11.31 + £12 = £79.87/US$104.45

I almost feel guilty. Those import/VAT tariffs are ridiculous. BTW, I did take advantage of Deep Discount's 15% off sale by adding Intervention SACD Matthew Sweet's "100% Sweet" to my order and it cost me roughly $26 w/tax. Too bad that title, actually their VERY last SACD title, was not part of that sale.
