So what exactly is that? Bach music on piano in quad/5.1? How does that work?

It's two editions of the same recording - pianist Christian Grøvlen performing the work of Bach.

The original edition features Stereo and 5 Channel DSD and DXD mixes using the DPA Microphones commonly used by 2L.
With the Sennheiser Special Edition, the album is available in Stereo and 4 Channel DSD and DXD using Sennheiser Microphones.
The discount allows listeners to buy both versions to compare the different microphones and mixes.

The album is a download only release.
Not available on disc (CD, SACD, BD Audio, etc.)

Yes but my question is solo piano in 5.1? Is it all ambiance? How does one mix one instrument in 5.1 sound?

20% Off Album of the Week

Our album of the week is Violin Concertos of Benjamin Britten and Mieczyslaw Weinberg in Stereo and Multichannel DSD from Challenge Classics.
Performed by noted violinist Linus Roth, the album has been applauded for its sonic quality and performances.

Daniel Elphick at Lines That Have Escaped says "Roth's playing is faultless throughout with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin providing a lush cushion for Roth's soloistic antics.
The release also has the selling point of being a DSD recording, should you have suitable equipment to enjoy it."

Violin Concertos is on sale until Friday, June 14, 2019 with the code AOTW at the Native DSD Music store. Don't miss this chance to add a fine DSD release to your collection.

Yes but my question is solo piano in 5.1? Is it all ambiance? How does one mix one instrument in 5.1 sound?

It's more a question of how the piano is mic'd and recorded than how it is mixed.

On the 5.1 edition of "Inside Polyphony" I wouldn't say that the album is "all ambience".
But that is not surprising since it is from 2L, where they are very much fans of more involving and immersive surround mixes.

Grr. I was waiting for a sale to score two of those Stevie Wonder SHM SACDs, and I see DeepDiscount has raised their prices to coincide with their 10% off sale. Granted the prices are only 5-6% higher, but . . . it's the principle of the thing! Actually, I'm taking it as a sign that I may find them used somewhere soon.

but those Stevie Wonder SHM SACDs list for about $7 less than on Deepdiscount . . . and I found some good Anthony Phillips I've been jonesing for!

As a rule Clement, Deep Discount which is ImportCD's sister company [or, vice versa] has always been higher on their SACDs .... probably to compensate for DD's FREE s/h policy [over $25]. But there ARE some great deals if you peruse the SACDs @ Import [like your Stevie Wonder SACD prices].

One thing I have noticed though is that both DD and Import have priced ALL MoFi Stereo SACDs a good $8 ABOVE their $29.95 LIST PRICE ...so be aware. MoFi Stereo SACDs are now $37.95 at ImportCD!!!!!!

And now that ImportCD and DD now charge local sales tax .... that 10% discount translates to roughly 3% for me in addition to ImportCD's s/h charges.

Francis Domville

5.0 out of 5 starsFantastic sound, ingenious sequencing.
10 June 2019
Format: Audio CD
There have been plenty of AWM compilation albums before, but in triple CD format this is the biggest. It actually stretches right from the start (The Jugglers was only on 1973's "Show Your Hand") and dropped when the album was re-released as Put It Where You Want It) beyond 1980 and features a couple of tracks from their Dan Hartman produced 1982 album "Cupids In Fashion" that was the last with the 'classic' line up of both Alan Gorrie and Hamish Stuart sharing vocals.

I'm an AWB completist, (I've all the original albums on vinyl and have seen both the current AWB perform live as well as Hamish Stuart in various formats) and a few of my favourites (Soul Searchin, Benny & Us, Shine) on CD, but for a fiver couldn't resist this for digital convenience. It has exceeded my expectations. The mastering is big, spacious, warm and has a lovely bass rumble.

The sequencing is ingenious. It's not chronological at all, but moves with the artistry of a good DJ, shifting from raw to rich, smooth to funky, early to late. In this configuration familiar songs sound fresh and more timeless. The shinier layered David Foster produced songs sit comfortably amongst the more restrained Arif Mardin work. Tracks have been included because they're great, not because they shifted units or were on the bigger albums. Beyond the better known funk treasures like "She's A Dream" buried on side 2 of their 1978 album, and regular AWB collaborator Ned Doheny penned "Loves A Heartache" from 1982 are personal favourites that appear to have tickled this compilers fancy too.

It's a pity the gold vinyl version cuts the track listing substantially, including both 1982 tracks and She's A Dream.

20% Off Bar del Mattatoio by Seigen Ono until June 21, 2019 with code AOTW. Album of the Week at NativeDSD.
An interesting blend of Jazz, Tropical and Ensemble music.

Bar del Mattatoio by Seigen Ono from Saidera Mastering is our Album of the Week.
This DSD release is an exciting fusion of Jazz, Classical, Tropicália, and Experimental music.

Ono takes you to a place that is nearly tactile, sweaty, absolutely sensual, intellectually challenging, and maybe even a bit psychedelic while maintaining a delicate humanity that is shadowed with melancholy. The album features composer, producer, guitarist, and pianist Seigen Ono joined by John Zorn, Arto Lindsay, Marc Ribot, Bobby Previte, Cyro Baptista, Roy Nathanson, and many other musicians.

This 1994 Japan-only release is currently out of print and has become very hard to find on disc, but now we bring it to you in DSD Stereo, transferred from the Original Analog Tape by Seigen Ono at the Native DSD Music store.
Better yet, you can save 20% on this very engaging and entertaining DSD album with code AOTW until Friday, June 21, 2019 at the NativeDSD Music store.

Anyone know if deepdiscount and get_importcds are the same company?
They are separate companies owned by the same company

I've noticed that they always seem to have identical stock. If an item is unavailable at Deep Discount, then Import CDs won't have it either. Their prices are usually wildly different so it's always good to check both.
