Tom Gibbs gives Magical Flute of China a perfect 5-Star review noting "I’ve always been a rather big fan of traditional Asian music, but historically, most recordings I’ve encountered have been pretty ho-hum, almost universally offering incredibly mediocre performances combined with equally poor sonics, and generally making for a less-than-satisfying listening experience. That said, this new disc from Channel Classics, from which I’ve come to expect both superb sound and top-notch performances, was a revelation, and may very well be the best collection of Asian traditional music I’ve ever heard!

While many performances of traditional Asian music may seem a chore to get through, this disc is anything but that, and I found that its 63-minute runtime passed all too quickly. The sounds that Tang Jun Qiao coaxes from her instrument are incredibly varied, and often reminiscent of birdsongs or people’s voices. And they’re sometimes startling in their intensity – but never grating to the ear. The recording is superb, as usual from Channel Classics, and is apparently part of a series of discs Channel is recording in China. This one has definitely peaked my interest – I’m ready to hear the rest! Very highly recommended!"

20% Off Album of the Week - Sale Extended Through May 24, 2019

Goodbye Pork Pie Hat by famed Jazz Saxophone player Charlie Mariano and Bass player Dieter Ilg from Sommelier du Son (Sommelier of Sound) is the NativeDSD Album of the Week.

This is a fine Jazz album that was originally released as a Vinyl LP from an Analog recording. Now it has been transferred from the Analog Master Tape to Stereo DSD 256 by Dirk Sommer at sommelier du son using the Playback Designs Pinot Analog to DSD 256 Converter.

Hans-Jürgen Schaal tells us "Almost too private to reach any outside ears. Too intensive to simply check it off and file it away as just an ordinary musical experience. Charlie Mariano and Dieter Ilg were brotherly partners for almost a decade, on and off the stage, until just very recently when Mariano passed away. “Later, this duo will be called legendary”, a music magazine wrote five years ago. “Later” is today."

Save 20% off this fine album at the Native DSD Music store with offer code AOTW until May 24, 2019. This is a DSD Exclusive, Not Available on SACD release.

This code brings my inclusive total for In Search Of Hades to $147.46, whereas Import CDs is $152.68 once taxes and shipping are added. I have placed my pre-order. Thanks for posting this code!

I don't know if you prefer to order from an outlet in the US...but amazon UK is still roughly $10 cheaper...in the $137 area once the VAT is removed...I'm still watching amazon US...at some point they are going to drop their price....it's just a matter of how far it drops...

Yes I think amazonuk is considerably cheaper than any US vendor for me....no taxes and no vat.
I'm just debating do I need that much TD? I already have the 3 cd Virgin collection plus some vinyl and a few other CDs.

I've felt the same way...I debated a LOT before pulling the trigger...due to the nature of their music.... that is a lot of content....the Steven Wilson factor clinched the deal...and it was close...the irony is that I'm trying to phase out my physical disc collection....so the decision to buy all those CDs wasn't an easy one

Through July 15th, Presto Classical has the Pentatone label on sale: up to 45% off, including (what's left of) the RQR and Remastered Classics series.
There's so much amazing stuff in the RQR series. I'll admit most of it is conservative "concert hall" mixing, but it's still far superior to stereo in giving you the experience of hearing the music live. The recordings of the Beaux Arts Trio are still considered the reference in any format, and there are numerous legendary soloists, conductors, and ensembles represented.

For people only looking for active surround mixes among the RQR discs, this is the only example I know of, although it's pretty avant-garde: https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/7932519--east-meets-west

The Remastered Classics series is even cheaper now, and it's been discussed at length on this site already. But really, if you don't have the 2-disc Damnation of Faust yet, what are you waiting for? https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/8056926--berlioz-la-damnation-de-faust-op-24

Here is the DR output from I Missed Again (from Face Value).
It doesn't sound overly compressed, not like a lot of Metal I have, although at loud volumes it has more treble than I like.

If you right click on the DR 11 logo, it will let you populate the individual numbers for each song.

Looking at the link for ..But Seriously shows the 12 tracks as:
40479

Checking it and my numbers match: 9 12 9 8 8 7 8 9 9 10 10 8
My original: 14 14 14 13 14 13 13 14 14 16 14 14

It looks like Face Value has a better sound: 10 12 11 13 10 10 11 11 11 11 13 9
My original: 14 15 14 14 12 13 13 11 14 14 13 11
Happy to check all 8 if people want the numbers but ouch, adds to my Remix > Remaster belief.
