Hi. All

I was wondering what were these companies trying to sell to the public

Clearly, they weren’t addressing the heterosexual women market.

A stereotype (forgive the term) for sure but traditionally "Audiophiles" were men and straight. That type of marketing would be unlikely today as it is not politically correct. It appeals to me big time and would have/did as a teenager and young adult! I would have bought those magazines for the cover alone!

Political correctness aside, It would be totally out of place today anyway as the bulk of today's modern equipment is far from sexy!

Even worse, Ken, our mindset has changed to the degree where we are now discussing how converting DSD to PCM internally in an Oppo degrades the sound. BTW, that reminds me that I need to respond on the other thread about how I convert DSD to FLAC.

T&A is still used to sell just about everything. Sure, "political correctness" (or just plain we've grown up a bit and are no longer quite so crass and shallow) has made all the silly double-entendre comments cringy ("for the sophisticated lover...of music!" go all the way!....swing with the foremost foursome...turn on with 4 channel stereo!") -- and that's probably a good thing. But that scantily glad women are still used to sell everything from cars to audio equipment?

Yeah...that hasn't really changed much...
