And I have moved to a new (to me) 1100 sq. ft. 1968 home that I am restoring. I currently do not stream (maybe I will one day), and will initially set up my system as stereo. But at some point next year (the budget is very tight right now (& I was just in a major car accident, through no fault of my own that had me T-Boning them at 40+ MPH because they made a left turn in front of me. I am very fortunate that the airbags did not deploy and blow out my hearing, but I have a lot of what they call "soft tissue damage" and am requiring a lot of Physical Therapy. I was laid off a few weeks before this [I have savings, etc] but it makes it difficult to progress on the house). So it will be certainly after January before I can get back into Quad.
In addition, I have 6 NAD 2200's (See a review of one of mine in Audio Science Review under NAD 2200 vintage review), 3 Dahlquist 905 speakers (the 4 has water damage due to a salt water flooding (I need a new cab but may just find another pair) none of the inside components got wet and I was able to save them & clean them up) and a pair of custom subwoofers.

Looks like you’ve had a tough time lately. In your shoes, I wouldn’t prioritize audiophilia, but I’m not you. It sounds like you have a platefull of projects that will keep you busy for a few years anyway, so hang in there, have fun, and stay in touch.
I don't disagree with you barfle but I think that he's looking at his surround system as a welcome distraction as he slowly gets his physical and financial health back in order. I think that he looking at his speakers, for example, as something to tinker with from time to time. I too feel bad for all that @ejh357 has had to endure and I'm happy to see that his spirit hasn't been broken.

Yes, I am currently planning for next year, as my audio budget is done for this year. I am actually starting to get better, as I managed to mow about a third of my small lawn yesterday.
Another step toward a better future (and looking forward to learning more about current quad gear.
Thank you J. Pupster for the link, I see that I have a lot of information to read. As it sits right now, I have some time, as I can't be as physically active as I usually am.

I hope you recover quickly 4 years ago my wife and I had the exact same accident a left turn on a blinking yellow in front of us and we T-boned them I was slightly injured but she had a fractured sternum it took 8 months for her to recover.

Hello everybody!
My name is Carlos, I'm from Portugal.
Thanks for having me on your forum.
I have to confess that it was by mere chance that I discovered it.
I love music forums, I have a lot of music (CDs, some vinyl and SACDS). By the way, lately I've been focusing more on SACDs (mainly Mofi, but also other labels...) I've got Roxy Music-Avalon, David Bowie-Let's Dance..., TalkTalk - The Color Of Spring..., Peter Gabriel - All SACDs... and some others.
Mofi: Dire Straits, Supertramp, Billy Joel, Pixies and much more...
And it was precisely because of Dire Straits (when informing about the future release of the album "On Every Street") that I discovered the forum.
Well, I hope to benefit from all your advice, and I hope I can also contribute.
Greetings to everyone.

Welcome to the forum Carlos, and especially thanks for posting(so relatively few QQ forum members actually do)! Feel free to ask questions and post as often as you’d like!

Welcome aboard, Carlos! I believe you will find that we are good for your ears and bad for your bank account. I’m not sure how many here understand Portugese, so thanks for posting in English.

Hi all - my name is Don, and I live at 10,000 feet of elevation in Leadville, Colorado, USA. Thanks for letting me on your forum.

I've been only reading threads and enjoying the Surround Polls for the past weeks; first two posts were today (now three). This site was indeed a great find.

I'm not new to multichannel, having built a big collection over the last 20 years of primarily DVD and BluRay concert videos. But, a chance conversation with my brother about a month ago made me curious about SACDs, a format that I had passed by. When he asked about my old "fat" PS3 and SACD ripping, that enticed me to buy a few. "Rumours" multichannel was a revelation, and now I'm spending way too much catching up (on SACDs, as well as BluRay and DVD-A).

I'm also both a computer and electronics hobbyist and became a bit obsessed with streaming DSD (and Atmos, DTS, etc) from ripped ISOs from my collection over HDMI to my Denon AVR. I'm doing that now and have learned a lot of lessons. I have a Sony BDP-S5100 for ripping SACDs, and an Oppo 203 and an Oppo 203 clone (M9702) for watching and listening.

Great! Welcome, so you are NOT a rookie. Sounds like you jumped right into the ripping process. Cool.
On the othe hand, I am SOOOO jealous you live at 10k in Colorado. Amazing.

Welcome aboard Don. The first few words of your post sound like an introduction statement to a 12 step program(which this forum kind of is, except none of us is looking for a cure LOL). Glad to hear that you scored an OPPO 203 before the prices went atmospheric. I have an OPPO 103D and an M9702 clone. You’ll have to decide on where to draw the line( or not!) regarding purchasing OOP titles.

TBH, I had to laugh when I read that Leadville was at an elevation of 10,000 feet. At first blush, one might think that a town named Leadville, based on its name, was subterranean. I’m sure that you and other locals get that a lot.

To paraphrase Richard Dreyfuss from the movie “Jaws”: “We’re gonna need a bigger hard drive!”

Well, I’m only at 4,000 feet, so maybe your altitude would be challenging (I drove up Mt. Evans once and when I got out of the car, I was surprised how little stamina I had).

But welcome to the forum. I’m sure you will find lots of ways to spend money here. And you’ll love doing so.

Hello everybody
My name is Per, and I live in Gothenburg, Sweden.

When DVD came 25-ish years ago, I was fashinated with the surround sound. The first movie that I watched in surround was Spider-Man, and I was blown away.

When I later found out about music in surround, I knew I'd love it, so I bought a bunch of special editions with Depeche Mode, where there was a bonus DVD with a surround mix of the album, and yes. I loved it. :)

I bought the blu-ray player I have because it supported SACD, and was heartbroken when it died.

I think my favorite surround mix is Brothers In Arms with Dire Straith, or The Dark Side Of The Moon with Pink Floyd.

Madonna just released a Dolby Atmos mix of her Immaculate Collection, and I hope it will find its way to a Blu-Ray too.
I also hope that all her albums will be released in 5.1.
It's just so much fun to listen to a surround mix. You hear new details in old familiar songs, and sometimes it's like listening to the albums for the first time. :)

Hello everyone.
Just looked and I signed up to be a member here 3 years ago and have never posted. I guess it’s about time.

I think I remember finding this place while looking around for Pink Floyd stuff online. Already had the Floyd Immersion boxes and then one day I found Roxy Music -Avalon in SACD at a used shop for 15 bucks, and I’ve been hunting down surround discs ever since.

Thanks to all the cool people on here, I’ve found a few bargains here and there, bought some titles I probably wouldn’t have before, and this site now gets checked daily, even though I never post anything.

Thanks for allowing me to lurk and check stuff out. Keep up the good work!
Welcome!!!

I made my first post in the Rhino Quadio thread to throw in my two cents for Gordon Lightfoot, but I should have posted here first.

I'm a longtime reader of the polls but finally joined due to that thread. I have a collection of about 600-700 surround-sound discs, mostly rock and classical. I've been at this a while and have always had a large collection of various audio formats over the years. I'm old enough to have used reel-to-reel tapes and 8-tracks when they were mainstream, as well as LPs and cassettes. Compact discs were a godsend (and optical discs are still my favorite format) for me when they came out, because surface noise finally was not a sound detractor. Before we downsized several years ago, I had about 6,000 CDs. My surround world opened up, literally, when I finally was able to install full-range rear speakers when we moved into our new place a few years ago -- great-sounding Beale Street in-ceiling speakers that are about the size of pickle buckets.

In my professional life, I oversee digital content for the nation's largest classical music service and second-biggest public radio company -- websites, newsletters, social media, video, podcasts, streams. In my personal life, I play trombone and have a long history of performing and teaching in drum and bugle corps. I used to write CD reviews for the classical music magazine Fanfare. I co-founded a publication for fans of the Moody Blues when I was 18 that ran for about 25 years and had more than 10,000 subscribers around the world. I consulted on the band's Time Traveller boxed set and contributed to a 2006 documentary about the band. I'm looking forward to receiving the new To Our Children's Children's Children boxed set any day now from JPC.
