Si I decided to break out my Spinners Pick of the Litter Quadradisc today, in anticipation of the Quadio release and this happened.....

There's no carrier being picked up by my Technics SH-400! It was fine when I just played Carly Simon's Playing Possum. The CD-4 adjustment record plays just fine - strong carriers on both.

I flipped Spinners to side 2 and perfect! But side one? Zero. I've never heard of that before. And it's been so long since I played this album, I have no idea if maybe I didn't notice this before.

Just looking for your thoughts. Maybe this was an issue with some of these pressings?

I don't own that CD-4, but doing some research here on the QQ, looks like @par4ken and @fredblue own copies, maybe they could chime in about theirs. I've never run across that problem on any of my CD-4's through the Marantz CD-400B.

according to my notes i recorded it in back in August 2016 (demodulated thru a 4DD-5 with an AT-440MLb) and i evidently didn't revisit it and didn't feel the need to get a 2nd copy of the CD-4 disc, so it seems unlikely there'd be much wrong with the LP but next time the old gear's fired up i'll gladly give it a spin, see what's what and report back 🤩

The matrix numbers on side one are ST-(an upside down V) 753393A AS Mastering by (and I can't read the rest.)

I have a feeling, now that I looked closer, it IS a flaw. "ST" must mean stereo and the runout groove is WAY to close to the label to be CD-4. Side 2s matrix number starts with QD. o_O
