Hmmm, wonder if there ever was a "Latest 45 or 12" " Thread...
Anyway, got my latest stuff, both from the same seller...had always wanted to get the 12" of "The Reflex" since the one on the Videos DVD has all kinds of dialog and extra shit...I am about 40 years too late, LOL!
and while at it I saw he had the 12" of "Is there something I should know?"...had always been a HUGE fan of Alex Sadkin's(RIP) talents behind the mixing board...was really taken aback when he died quite a whole ago at such a young age....

Forgot to add that there was a quite special freebie included in the package-sometimes sellers add an old cover or even, like in this case, the cover and the LP...in quite good condition too...had not had a K-Tel album in my collection in AGES!

Hmmm, talk about SHITTY luck!
2 out of three IS pretty bad when it comes to this...
OK, first of all
Tha Finn Bros LP... bought it from a BaM store on Discogs...I opened it yesterday and had a WTF moment cause it was a SEALED LP and side B had THIS horrible an unexplainable SCRATCH! I mean, I understand some kind of scuffing or handling mistake but this looks like it was done on purpose!
Thankfully, since it's a REAL store I contacted them and they had an extra copy which they opened for me to check it and, they told me it still wasn't perfect but it wasn't that bad... I am paying for the return postage cause I offered...

So , on to number 2:
I saw on fleabay they posted this as a 2010 re-release (Music on Vinyl) but, alas, when I received it , it was the inferior SONY 2019 re-release...the store is in BERLIN (yes, the one in GERMANY) and they refunded me the purchase...SO HARD GETTING GOOD HELP THESE DAYS!!!! ..btw, I loved the original cover that was changed so I ordered a poster of it...HA!

And then to number 3 which also had an interesting provenance...Ordered this way back in January BEFORE the seriously expensive boxset was announced...I am a SUCKER for Japanese pressings...so, February and then March go by and no sign of it (surface shipping from Japan is not traceable), so I very kindly asked the seller for a refund which, thankfully he did refund me and I told him that when it gets here, I would gladly pay him for it 100%...and hey, after THREE MONTHS, it appeared yesterday..and I AM paying him cause I am a huge believer in Karma...
My copy is sans Obi but I don't care...
BTW, it's a MINTY pressing from back then and it features a nice 12 page pamphlet with all kinds of essays in Japanese; thank goodness for G**gle translator!

Here is the pamphlet cover...

and something that took me by surprise.. they were on EPIC records in Japan!!! I'd have thunk they would be on Phonogram Records Japan....I am sure they got a better deal through EPIC...
and no it is not translucent vinyl :(

Now THIS would have made for a pretty cool ANNIVERSARY reissue...but , NOOOOOOOooooooooo,
Oh well...

Well, yesterday after going to the dermatologist and having her freeze/burn a couple of things , I treated myself to a Salvation Army run...found that someone had gotten rid of their "Kuhlassic Rock" LPs, albeit sans covers so it was only the discs.. they looked; well, PLAYABLE , a lot of stuff but not any "dealbreaker" defects like cracks or really deep scratches...oh , and they were DIRTY , but nothing that my "patented" distilled water with a spritz of alcohol and Kimwipes couldn't handle...
I started putting them on Discogs and found that they were basically FIRST pressings so the person actually bought these when they came out; you know I am a sucker for Japanese Pressings and FIRST or early pressings cause the tapes were nice and fresh...it's really amazing how clear they all sound in spite of the sometimes overpowering surface noise...
Starting with yet another Boston LP copy, a double Wally which unfortunately is the ONLY one with a skip and it's on the first 5 seconds of "More than a Feeling"

This one is another one I never had on LP but I DID have the "Hot Blooded" 45 many eons ago..it also plays quite nice...sounds REALLY fresh! I remember they used to play "Back where you belong" on the radio and I had not heard it in DECADES until a few years ago...

Another gem which had a lot of surface noise but I put my Izotope RX10 through the motions and, man, does it clean up nice! have never had this on LP so it's a great addition...and , yes, it has the cool label with the LP art...
LTg1MDYuanBlZw.jpeg

and another one I have never had on LP.. this one is the noisiest of the bunch, surface noise basically overpowers the first songs of side 1.. I am playing it now...Side 2 is "quieter"

And now the ones I have not played yet...
Yeah, I know, like I need another copy of this since I have an early pressing I got when it came out-and the DVDA- but, hey.. for 50 cents I could NOT refuse...another early pressing and I love the palm tree labels...I think it's the same pressing I bought back in 1977...

... I found an extremely minty pressing of a Julie Andrews album...I know it's a recording from the late 50s and this is a late 70s repressing but... ahh Dame Julie!, and of course I used it as a transport for one of the above LPs that did not have a cover!
ODgtMjIxOS5qcGVn.jpeg

...and speaking of "transports" for my coverless LPs, I got this one , which was an orphan...and although the seams are mostly open , the cover is very clean and could be used for framing!!!

Nice haul!

OK, here is the latest haul...
the Ray Conniff one is NOT on Discogs!
IMG_2652.JPG

We used to have the Boston Pops collection on 8 track at home back then...

All of them are in VG+ up to MINT condition, incredible!

IMG_2655.JPG

The Nat King Cole one is great, and The Romantics one is a classic, it has "Talking in your sleep"
IMG_2657.JPG

The Toscanini one is basically NM, and so are the Sound FX ones, but they did not have covers!

All for $44 !!!

What did you think of the Paul’s album? I’ve seen some rough reviews on this one which is a shame as I think Paul is a good guy and probably came at this project with a lot of love and respect for the music.
Paul Gilbert's Dio Album is all instrumental, which you likely know. Good album IF you take it for what it is. A disappointment IF you're looking for other sounds, including vocals.

Need to give it a few more spins to "break it in." Will do that again soon.

Based on a couple spins, I'd give it a 6.

Both the Whitney Houston one and the "Voices of Liberty" are sealed! the latter one is an Disney EPCOT Center album with a $5.98 Walt Disney World sticker in the right rear lower corner! Talk about weird.. it also sells for kinda silly money since it's OOP..
The only one of the bunch that looks like it saw quite a bit of action but still is VG+ is the Albert Lee one... a bunch of 'em look like they were NEVER played... unfortunately the Journey one looks almost MINT but there are several spots where the vinyl quality was really bad.. it still plays OK, though...

My only thought from listening briefly to samples of all songs was that I was - even in that quick-hit scenario - growing tired of Paul’s “vocal” guitar sound. It felt he was taking this great singer’s voice and stripping it down to a single guitar sound that lacked nuance in tone.

I read a couple of interviews with him in the guitar magazines about the effort to get the inflections of Ronnie’s voice correct, but I feel he lost an equally important aspect of what a singer can do with dynamics and subtle changes in the voice.

But again, that’s based only on sampling the songs, not listening in full.

had a horrible day today...
and on top of that ...THIS IN THE MAIL!
View attachment 90908
I got a quad album in the mail with a worse crack.
Mailed in a flimsy envelope. The hard to find Bach Bigg 4 organs one. Was I pissed.
But you know if you keep the record flat you may be able to play it. Risky for the stylus though.
