What's the Latest MATRIX LP/CD Added to Your Pile? SQ, QS, RM, EV

Did my usual run of local charity shops this morning and dug up two EMI SQ classical LPs:

Andre Previn's Music Night 2 with music by Glinka, Barber, Falla, Debussy, Butterworth and (Johan) Strauss, - London Symphony Orchestra,
Elgar Symphony No. 1, London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Boult.

Both are EMI/HMV red labels. I find that they are the easiest to spot. They always seem to be mixed in with a whole heap of rubbish but are usually in great condition.

A weird one to add to the list:

Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn (Virgin) in QS! :yikes I know of one other person who has got this but it seems a bit odd. It is definitely a UK release, which makes QS unusual. It has "Promotional Copy" printed in red across the labels. It is in the standard "stereo" sleeve but with a nice "QS Quad (in square writing)" silver sticker on it. Now, I need the SQ version.

They sent me a copy free!

Hi everyone,

This is probably the wrong thread but would anyone like to take a guess how many SQ and QS releases there are? Are we talking upper hundreds or many thousands? It would be interesting to find out what the numbers for each matrix are but a guestimate would do. It would help me find out how big a bank account I will need.

I know that JonUrban has been collecting titles on his Quad Label pages and has Columbia listing 358 (my weird "Rule Britannia" LP doesn't appear on his list - so at least 359).

I have been a little silly recently and gone out and bought Janis Joplin's "Pearl" in SQ (Columbia) and Saint-Saens' Symphony No. 3 (the organ symphony, EMI/HMV, SQ), which are my latest purchases.

Capitol Records The New Country-Pop Favorites (SQ)

Some day I am going to have all the weird US Capitol SQ discs. I have a good start.

I have Fiddler on the roof, John Morell, San Fernando Brass, New Songs of 70's, Bacharach and now Country-pop Favorites.

From what I can tell, this leaves me needing "Quadraphonic Hit Sounds" (does that even exist? I can't find a pic of it), "Songs of the 70's" and "Great Songs of the Beatles"

That's pretty much it for US Capitol pop SQ other than the christmas albums and demonstration LPs isn't it?

I wish I had picked up the box I once saw with these in it. I never saw the box set again. I left it behind at a Goodwill (like an idiot) because it only had 3 of the records in it.

I wonder if that was "Quadraphonic Hit Sounds". That is a shame though. Sounds like you remember everything you should have picked up at Goodwill, yard sales, etc. Like I do.

Last summer at a yard sale I didn't buy a copy of Elvis Moody Blue on the original black vinyl in near mint condition with the shrink completely in tact for $15 because I didn't like the attitude of the woman selling it. She was just rude and hateful. I got so mad I just left without anything. Really, that made me the loser because I missed one of the deals of a lifetime. That record is so rare and you couldn't find a nicer example.

I only remember things when I am prompted, usually when regretting things. I was also about 5 years away from finding a quad setup. That Moody Blue would have been nice too! I have seen a few of them, but only in record stores. In Toronto they seem to have little value. No one seems to believe that the black is rarer than the blue vinyl. SCHMUCKS!!!!

I have heard that the black vinyl is not rarer in Canada.That only the US black vinyl is rare. US had only started issuing them before Elvis died I think, then they changed it to blue as a commemoritive item. I see the US version consistantly going for over $100

I have a Q8 of that. Perhaps you'll enjoy it, although it's one of my least favorite Quads musically. The album's original release was 1966.
