What's the Latest MATRIX LP/CD Added to Your Pile? SQ, QS, RM, EV

The price for the Kevin Coyne on CD or LP is quite high on Discogs (well with the P&P!), I wish the album Majory Razorblade was in Quad, hooked on it since hearing the single on the radio (late night!) and then getting a Virgin Sampler cassette with it on it.

I think mine was quite cheap ,maybe $25 can. So I can't complain. And I agree..... too bad Marjory Razorblade is not in quad .


Now the David Bedford was available in SQ ! in France and down under Australia and New Zealand.
That I found surprising ...and yet the CD has been reported to be BBC Matrix H and not SQ .


Also strange but true Columbia/Virgin Records in the U.S. released a single LP of Kevin Coyne's -In Living Black And White ? with no quad indications? But it would be SQ as it was encoded on the 2 track UK master that Columbia would have used.

We have a lot of different quad systems utilized by Virgin Records ,when you think about it.
For instance...Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells , CD-4 by Virgin/Atlantic in the U.S. , then SQ in the UK , and then UD-4 in Japan by Nippon Columbia.
Ommadawn in SQ on CBS/VIRGIN in The U.S . and then QS in the UK (and maybe SQ as well) on Virgin UK .
David Bedford - Instructions For Angel's in BBC matrix H on Virgin UK but in SQ on Virgin France also in SQ on Virgin New Zealand and Australia .

UK Virgin had QV 2xxx for the SQ albums - I only remember 'Ommadawn' as an SQ number.... ( I managed a small UK record store in the mid '70's.)

Does anyone else think something went wrong with the QS encode of the Three Dog Night album, like maybe the front and rear channels are reversed? It sounds like almost everything is coming out of the rear, save for the fuzz bass and some twangy guitar in front center during the chorus of "Play Something Sweet". My scope shows an upside-down V-shape for much of the time, with the occasional burst in front center for the aforementioned instrumentation.

its a good job the SQ LP of "Between The Lines" decodes so well because it feels like we'll never hear the Quad from the mastertapes.

oh wow.. that would be quite the screw up! i haven't played the QS of "Hard Labor" for many years but i don't remember it being as Surroundily satisfying as "Coming Down Your Way"
