tom cochrane & red rider trapeze the collection DVD Audio: finally found one at an (arguably) reasonable price. I've been looking on and off for about a year and this one is the first I'd seen. But it's sealed. I almost prefer it wasn't:rolleyes:

Some real beauties I've had on my shopping list for years just arrived..

Le Birthday Album - Indochine (2-disc Hybrid MultiCh SACD set),
Les Beaux Degats - Francis Cabrel (Hybrid MultiCh SACD) in the most gorgeous little digibook packaging I must say!
and..
Unforgettable Too - Dana Winner (and whaddyaknow it IS the MultiCh SACD and not the more recent CD reissue! for £20 I reckon that's not bad!?).

time for a

Linn Super Audio Collection - Volume 6 (Hybrid MultiCh SACD),
Vivaldi: The Four Seasons - David Juritz/London Mozart Players (DVD-Audio),
Songs For Survivors - Graham Nash (DVD-Audio).

** NAXOS DVD-A 5.110001

WOW! What is most exceptional about this particular Naxos DVD-A is not the Four Seasons (its nice enough) but that the entire "Concertos For Double Orchestra" afterwards do just what they say on the tin and are in the most wonderful discrete surround, with one orchestra across the front channels and another across the rears!

the liner notes explain that the soloist (David Juritz) was recorded standing right in the middle of the two orchestras.. now the producers/mixers/whoever didn't take the brave/foolhardy decision to actually try and sit the soloist right in the middle or even in the centre channel so it diffuses the effect a little but it's still very very neat to have two orchestras at once in front and behind you!

its a real departure from the norm for Classical music in surround but if this is the way the two orchestra's and soloist were arraigned then why not. Its terrific!

I managed to get the Katatonia and Dream Theater DVD-As from JB Hi Fi tonight. I was quite surprised to find them there. I do hope I like these but can't pass up the opportunity to buy new DVD-As in 2013!

Sorry, I'm busy punishing others. One of my deputies will be by to punish you...

Tito Puente- Goza mi timbal SACD...wow, EXCELLENT MIX AND CONTENTS!!!! Really active in the rears, all kind of percussion, congas and timbales galore!!!

I met Mr. Puente in 1995 in San Juan...told him I learned to play Salsa and Mambo listening to his old recordings...he did not know what to say!!! I've a pic somewhere....was sad the day we heard of his passing away...we were in Santiago de Compostela in a bus on our way to see a Sting concert...which coincidentally I'm now wearing the shirt I bought at the show...

(BTW.... got ripped off from the seller mx_123 from the USA at amaz*n USA...charged me $14.29 USD for a package that cost $8.88 to send!)

Descansa en paz Tito!!!

I've been unlucky in the past with this one.. had it on my wishlist for years and when I finally found it cheap (to justify the risk as I couldn't find any info on the mix at the time so I was essentially buying blind -- I should've known better, it was too cheap to be true) the UK seller on Amazon sent out the old redbook CD.... *yawn*... who then complained that it was the fault of the automatic listing system on Amazon and they hadn't in fact sent me the wrong disc.. *double yawn*... after a bit of back and forth they refunded the couple of quid in the end (at least I didn't have to send it back) but I gave up after that and had forgotten about it altogether since, so I'm very grateful for the reminder and the great feedback! thank you Kap! neat story about the man himself too! :)

short but excellent works for me :) got quite a few Concord SACDs already, the "Ultimate Mancini" SACD and two Poncho Sanchez discs ("Conga Blue" and "Out Of Sight") are superb from both surround and content p.o.v's, I've a few more Concord's on my shopping list but biding my time til I find them el cheapo!

I've got to wonder why AF uses those slipcases with the cut-out hole so you can see the disc. It's useful for marketing the 24kt gold CDs but for SACDs it offers nothing.

It's probably their way of transitioning from Gold CD to SACD releases. I agree that it doesn't add anything special to the final product.
