Don't forget the Film Music of Jerry Goldsmith SACD on Telarc. One of the early Multichannel SACDs - a lot of fun !
Sorry Brian but I have to agree with keenly on this one. I just had a listen. As a 5.1 disc it does not excite me the way a "good" 5.1 does. It is boring because the 5.1 experience is not there. If you listen to a lot of stereo music then this one probably sounds pretty good. The fidelity is nice. But when you listen to mainly surround music you want that "thing" that surround music does to you. This disc doesn't have it.

When I read Lacombe Alberta I think of Choppy's in Red Deer...

This is one of many soundtracks* that claim to be mixed in 5.1 but are really multi channel stereo. Nice sound quality though. I recommend Timeline as well by Jerry, shame these did not have discrete mixes.

*Zorro
Titanic
Timeline(rejected)
English Patient
Terminator 2

All have NO discrete elements whatsoever. Real shame because the sound quality of each one of them is immense. They could of been sublime with real surround mixes.

Yep, Terminator 2 soundtrack is a stereo 44.1kHz/16bit digital master that has been put through a sort of Dolby PL or fake surround processor. Some of the musical information that's out of phase is put in the rear channels but it is certainly not a true surround mix.

I have tried telling that on the Steve Hoffman forum but have been shushed. :p

Well Lacombe is close to Red Deer but never heard of Choppy's. What is it?

That's funny...'cause I don't really know. You see; I went to college in '81 at Nait and one of my classmates was a roughneck from Lacombe who ALWAYS wore a t-shirt emblazoned with "Choppy's in Red Deer". Henceforth; he became Choppy...

I once interviewed at a shop in Lacombe that used to make lapel pins..they wanted someone to take on the electroplating division. It didn't work out.

I stop now lest I pollute the thread...lol.

DKA could do a great surround mix with the stereo SACD.

Like Minds - Burton, Corea, Metheny, Haynes, Holland (M/C SACD).

Nice one, Adam! Great music even though I don't recall the surround mix to be very discrete.

I'm pleased to see that there's at least one disc that I acquired before you. :)

I've had the Blu-Ray Audio of Quadrophenia for over a month now (hope it qualifies as a latest) and have listened to it at least three times. What I am about to say isn't easy for me as the music itself is a personal favorite. It sounds thin to me and almost pieced together and the only reason it hasn't been played more often is that it becomes sonically unpleasant after a short time. My set-up isn't top notch but I have very few discs that disappoint in this way. I'm not running a sub yet but many discs including plenty of DVD-A, DTS-CD and SACD give acceptable and enjoyable bass. I read a post that mentioned AVR settings and Blu's but can't find it so I'm wondering if that might be the problem. For reference I have all the SW as well as the Marley Legend Blu and they sound fine.

Edit: Also Gentle Giant Power And The Glory on BluRay is extraordinary.

There is a poll for this title and your comments would likely be of value there. Just a friendly suggestion.
