Yeah , sure is ! I did that on purpose. Kinda like braggin. I have been looking for sooo long for the two MB CD-4's and have found them both within the last month. I put in an offer and both were accepted to my surprise. I have a post in What's the Latest DISCRETE Quad LP Added to Your Pile? CD-4, UD-4 for the two releases. Here are pic's of my purchases.
Does the fact there there is a QR, a Q8, and an SACD of a given quad album bring down the prices a bit on some of the nicer rarer items?

What do you do when you get a Q8 that has no quad notch out of the insert end? Soldering iron here we come?

Never happened in real life.
Unfortunately, the opposite is true: stereo tapes in quad cart. USA and Spain have a lot of them

Yes, there has been some Quad-Encoded stereo cart. This Orion doesn't even look like it was quad encoded. The 4 channel probably refers to the four programs.

Oh, like an SQ encoded stereo cart. Sad bummer that would be.

i'm thinking the Q8s would most probably be encoded in QS or some variation of regular matrix?

the only SQ-encoded tapes i've seen were from Germany, BASF cassette releases of some of their Quad LPs, incl Berry Lipman, Klaus Weiss and a couple of others (pic of one such SQ cassette below).

I bought aboot 8 or 10 Angel 8-tracks from Value Village a few months ago that are sealed. They all have the double circle logo. I have to assume they are all SQ encoded. I can not claim to have seen a discrete Angel 8-track from Capitol(Canada). I had most of the titles in LP or 12" 45rpm formats. Nothing musically rare, just 99cents each and sealed. I left the ones without double circles behind, aboot 40-60, all gone next day when I checked.

I'm sorry but I'm in love with the "Firebird" EMI/Angel quad reel. It just looks like it would be killer.

Hi. quicksrt

Sorry for not answering you straight away, I have to rotate my Quad set up so now I have my RtR connected now..

So the Stravinsky "The Fire Bird"-Ballet ( 1910 Version ) Jap Angle EMI RtR Discrete tape, I have to say it was very dynamic lot of quite passages it gave a 360o. Sound field close your eyes and you get this felling of height & depth and you can hear each instrument in the arc sound field in front of you, I enjoyed it very much.

The tape its self was clean and virtually NO tape hiss because of the quite passages of music this could show through but did not.

It's fine, reply when you can and when you feel like it. The Q4s are just so amazing to me, and in many cases all we are ever going to see or hear of the given item in quad, and in top quality. And Japanese import Q4s it would seem are essentially the top prize / crown jewel of quad collecting. I wonder if there are Warner / Pioneer Q4 rock titles from Japan?

Tell us more when you get a chance.

Recently I purchased 23 pieces Italian Q8's.
Pictures of these Q8's:

and
http://members.ziggo.nl/ceeveedee//images/fotosforum/8 track IT2.jpg

Allmost all are still in the original plastic wrapping and are thus new, unplayed.
Now the good news for those of you who collect these, these Q8's are all available as they do not include my type of music. I purchased them in the hope I can trade them for Q8's that I am looking for.
Probably I should offer them in another section of the forum, but on the other hand these Q8's represent the latest quad tapes added to my pile :)

@Clemens
before anything else, please contact Mark Anderson with the data needed for the Quad discography, many of these Q8 are undocumented.

Hi. Clemens

These Q8`s I have never seen them on eBay they are rare items just like the Japanese Q8 I purchased 180 late last year from a Japanese Auction site, I took photos of each one and sent them to-- steelydave-- who done a fantastic job of cataloging them for all to see for the future, if you cant get a hold of-- steelydave-- try ---Mark Anderson---...

The link below will take you to my purchase....

I would lay them on a scanner and get good scans of front and back sides. Scan in 400dpi, or 600dpi preferred. You can do four at a time. Small details are of importance, like labels and cat#s.

You can use these scanned pictures later when you decide to trade or sell them off.

incredible discovery.. the SQ LPs of several of these albums are common but did anybody here know all these existed on Q8 at all?

its not just the cover that's eyepopping on Intermezzo! consider that it's a Q8 from Italy in 1976! Intertitzzout or what!!! o_O

which company could have been manufacturing these tapes and when?
