At least it's the same list price as the previous super-deluxe titles. I would expect this one to sell more copies since it's widely considered to be the best and most iconic Yes album, so a greater chance of it selling out. Can only hope that Steven Wilson has been able to work the same kind of magic with the Atmos mix that he did for The Yes Album and Fragile - I was not that impressed with his earlier 5.1 of CTTE. It also looks like they have slightly increased the amount of extra/rare material, but as far as I can tell the Blu-ray is just as stingy as in the previous releases. And the vinyl is dead weight, of course. Will definitely be scouring the retailers for best price. At least this is a slightly better value for money than The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, but that's a pretty low bar for these inflated packages.

For purposes of comparison (these are pre-order/day-of-release prices in USD, not weeks-or-months-after-the-fact fire-sale prices):
  • The Yes Album sold for $79.99 on Amazon, $73.44 + shipping at ImportCDs, and $69.99 at DeepDiscount. (If your timing was right, 10% or 15% coupons at the latter two merchants made it even cheaper.)
  • I didn't track Fragile quite as carefully, though I do know that I was comparison shopping pretty zealously, and the cheapest regular pre-order price I found was $76.05 (including shipping) at ImportCDs. Barely a month after its release, it was already being discounted at Amazon for significantly less.

"7. America (“Dry” Mix)"

Niceeeee!

And interesting that they found another live show after the Progeny set. If "Close to the Edge" and "Starship Trooper" are the same performances as on Yessongs that gets us closer to rebuilding the album with better sonics. (Although the sound of that YouTube video doesn't convince me...)

Looks like Fragile opened up at $100.00 then dropped significantly 3 months later...

Pre-ordered from Rhino - the signed litho from Roger Dean sealed the deal.

Shoot! I recently ordered the 5.1 version while shopping for Steven Wilson's new-old album The Harmony Codex, yet to play it. I'll get this Yes album next time when they remix it with channels for seat vibrators.
and up firing speakers mounted into the floors...

Preordered! This album has so much history with me and the two buddies who went to see them debut CTTE at the Akron Rubber Bowl in August of '72 (btw THAT concert was the most eclectic three band concert I've ever seen.....The Eagles, Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin, Yes!!!) Seriously. Anyway, we recorded the Yes set on a small Aiwa tape recorder....and would listen to it for hours and hours...for months before the studio release. When it came out we were dumbfounded, frankly, that the studio version was a bit different from the ugly compressed tape recording of a live performance from the 20th row outdoors. But we got used to it fast enough. :)

The immersive ideas that are always conjured up when you hear this album...I trust SW and the gang will fill the room with spectacular (but restrained) 7.1.4 beauty. Can't wait. Thanks for the heads up!
