New video up today from Vaultmeister Joe Travers interviewing Ahmet about his personal relationship with the album and the production of the deluxe box.

At ~ 7:40, his comments about the Atmos mix:

"Hearing the Atmos mix was a real eye opener and an ear opener, because you hear things that really give you a whole perspective.

So if you have the opportunity to listen in an Atmos room, which is very different from hearing an Atmos mix [on] earbuds or headphones or something Atmos capable... I mean that's a great experience, too, but when you can actually be in the room, that's pretty incredible.

Spatial audio, it's something special for the music world, and I hope more people embrace it.
Certainly this record, because a lot of time & love & energy went into it, and it's really killer, couldn't be more proud of it."

Thought some of you might be interested in this conversation I had on my youtube channel !

Along the way we discuss DISC 1 of the new boxed set - which contains the new 2024 Bernie Grundman master of the "Apostrophe (')" album as well as a few extras. We also talk about our personal histories with the material, our opinion on the new 2024 master, a detailed track-by-track breakdown of the album, and a summary of the Disc 1 extras.

Some buds of mine got together and recorded a long chat about this box and its historical context. It was a long video so we cut it up and plan to release one section at a time. Here's part two which covers the Colorado Springs CO show (discs 2-3).

Part 3 of our discussion on this box is out today !

Join my buddies and I - Gavin, Jacopo aka @Galeans, and Mike as we discuss DISCS 3-5 of the new boxed set - which contains a Fall 1974 concert and Zappa produced extras. Lastly, I briefly touch upon the Blu Ray Disc, which includes the Dolby Atmos mix of the album.

Finally got the box set a few days ago, on sale from Amazon for Black Friday. The new 5.1 is stunning.

One thing I noticed though is that the “quad mix” on this set is curious to me as it doesn’t seem to include the extra bar of music on Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow, right after the lyric, “Dreamed I was an Eskimo”.

As is now common knowledge, the quad master was folded down and used for the original CD and Ryko reissue and they both feature this extra bar of music. It’s completely absent on this supposed transfer of the quad master.

Anyone else know what I am talking about? I don’t have the original CD-4 or any of the DVD-A conversions but I’m sure if you checked those they would indeed feature that extra bar of music.

Found an old video on YouTube which uses the fold down version. You can hear the extra bar of music from 0:25 to 0:32

Otherwise this is a really awesome set and the live shows are sublime, particularly the Dayton, Ohio show which from reading the excellent liner notes I now know is the last surviving document of the Fall ‘74 band as it was recorded the day before Tom Fowler broke his finger!
