For those hoping the soft rock title is Eagles. Come on...that's a big-ass stretch. I personally would never consider them soft rock. lol
C'mon Gos....you know this is the honeymoon phase of a new release...people are happy(even the one's that complain all the time)...let's just let some happiness flood the threads with unbridled joy...before the darkness engulfs the thread....all things are possible at this point...

I wouldn’t mind the Deaf School, but it’s such a little known outlier, doubtful Rhino will ever get to it. But it is a bit quirky, so I like it!

Category , would be New Wave/Rock fwiw.
And F B is quite correct , the mix is a quirky great quad workout !

Well maybe next time , and add Passport Handmade , and Absolute Elsewhere,

All European exceedingly great releases in quad. Showstoppers all !

I'm up for all four just about no matter what they issue. Well, I could see myself passing on a disc - like if they made an error and accidently chose an America album that AF had already issued in quad on SACD. Like if they put out "Hearts" when what they meant to do was (the rare quad) "Holiday" instead. And I don't know if I'd be into "Waitress in a (Winchell's) Donut Shop"... even in quad.

Every once in a while a label has the opportunity to release something staggeringly great and amazing, and then they instead choose an odd (their) personal favorite from the catalog rather than the chart topping fan fan fave with two or three hit singles on it. We've seen this happen at a couple of labels (I won't name names).

But these next four coming out with lots of variety, it will provide the label with more data on what in quad moves units.

Again, there is just no scenario I can think of that will stop me from buying all 4 October releases.
well, what if the four were:

Mickey Newbury - Frisco Mabel Joy & I Came to Hear the Music (2-fer!!!)
Judy Collins - Judith
Arlo Guthrie - Last of the Brooklyn Cowboys
Richard Harris - The Prophet

:p

1 Jazz
1 R&B
1 Singer/Songwriter
1 Soft Rock
Maybe next week if you have a moment you could drop us a hot tip on labels? Like tell us:

1. There is an Asylum records title this time, or
2. There is an Elektra album, or
3. There is a Reprise album included, or
4. All titles are WB and Atlantic albums
5. or even... 2 Atlantic, 1 WB, and 1 Asylum.
6. 1 WB, 1 Reprise, 2 Atlantic?

Just so we don't completely crack up beating our heads against the walls, which is what happens after about two weeks of guessing.

Ok, so I looked at chart action and number of hit singles included for soft rock albums in quad.

Bread - Baby I'm-a Want You, was a top 5 album with four hit singles. A huge album indeed, but all four hits are included on "Best of Bread"
America - Holiday, a top 5 album with two hit singles
Seals and Crofts - Diamond Girl, a top 5 album with two hit singles (their best selling album)
Seals and Crofts - Summer Breeze, a top 5 album with two hit singles

So I suspect for soft rock it's America - Holiday, or Seals and Crofts - Diamond Girl.

Why does it have to be an album with hit singles?
I believe it was @quicksrt who theorized a balance of needing to appeal to the masses while satisfying the quad niche market was likely a part of the marketing strategy Rhino developed when selecting titles for the quadios. I may be wrong about that, but I'm certain that perspective was discussed somewhere in these pages.

So, I'm thinking his selection, which includes top hits, is reflective of that strategy and not necessarily his personal first choices. And I also may be way off the mark with my thought....!

Why does it have to be an album with hit singles? I don’t think Jackson Browne’s Late For The Sky had any and it’s still great, one of my favorite WEA quads.
This is not about what I would necessarily like to see released, but considers what has previously sold, and how well it has sold, and the likely sales potential.

There is nothing quite like top 10 hit singles included on gold and platinum albums to sustain a series of reissues. And to mix in some "artistic statements" is of course the best of both worlds.

Jackson Browne’s Late For The Sky btw is a singer-songwriter album more than soft rock imo.

Is ELO a possibility?
Apart from the first two albums which were on EMI, I've read on other forums that the multitracks for the CBS albums have been lost/misplaced (or shudder, recorded over) for decades, inexplicable for a group that became so successful. And it would not surprise me if Jeff would not be interested in be involved in a Quad/5.1 release, even if the multitracks were located tomorrow. He reportedly didnt know the Eldorado SACD was released until he was told that it had.
