We're on the same wavelength, Clint. I also received Thrust and Spectrum today along with The Best of Santana (Hong Kong SACD)....the latter of which I think really sounds superb (The late George Marino did do a stellar job). I also received a BIS Classical mch SACD: Andrew Litton and the Colorado Symphony's Aaron Copland Disc which was positively reviewed over at HRAudio.net. http://hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=11082#reviews

Except for a cracked CD case (Spectrum) from Deep Discount, I still think DD has the BEST prices on SACDs...Spectrum delivered was $20.32 so the cracked case was irrelevant (quickly replaced by my blank case stash...which, BTW, is 'sturdier' than the one supplied by AF).

And, I received both my discs today....also from DeepDiscount....playing Herbie Hancock now, and it sounds great I think.

I agree, GOS. Just gave it [Thrust] a 'preliminary' audition and it really rocks......in a jazzy sort of way!

Been checking DD for pre~orders on EW&F's Head to the Sky but it's not as yet listed. Those 15% discounts which crop up from time to time at DD are REAL bonuses. No tax/free shipping...15% off .....NO complaints here (AmazonUS still charges me sales tax).

Do you have the Santana SACD disc yet (from Hong Kong). DD finally has that in stock.....but I'd wait until the next promo sale to order it [just a suggestion].

An interesting 'rant' over on SDE about downloads/streaming and 'free' music,

http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/f...-physical-reissues-special-again/#more-120776

If we end up where music is 'free' no-one involved in it will make a living, then where will we be?

That'll NEVER happen, Duncan.

For an interesting take on the music business, HBO has a new series called VINYL which deals with the early days of the music 'biz!' And ironically one of the lines from one of the 'salacious/sleazy' record producers is "Who cares about the music......we're making LOTS of money....."

And who knew that a young Alice Cooper was a 'golfer?' I LOVE the DEAD and a hole in one!

A very bizarre take on the late 60's and early 70's record industry.

NOT for the faint of heart.

Executive Produced by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger.

He's very good I hear. I got to meet him once. He was a really nice guy. I always go to his shows when he's in the area.

What? Met him? That's cool.....

The only "rockers" I physically met I can count on 1 hand....

I met:

Rick Springfield
Tom Keifer - Cinderella lead singer
Marq Torien - Bullet Boys lead singer

Well, and in 1980, Angus Young ran right in front of me on the shoulders of Brian Johnson...and I slapped his sweaty shoulder.....but that's not really "meeting" someone is it? lmao

Oops - while not "rocker", I did share some amazingly intimate moments with Buddy Guy at a bar in Chicago. Oh hell yes! That's one my proudest moments.....

So can I actually,

Alice Cooper (at a personal appearance for a large Halloween haunted house in Ohio)
David Clayton Thomas (had a beer with him between sets. I paid.)
Al Stewart (you can meet him too, at the end of any of his shows. He always hangs out to do autographs right in the venue)
Natalie Merchant (after one of her shows, we were "chosen" since my stepdaughter was in a wheelchair)
4/5 of the Barenaked Ladies (drummer was busy I guess, same circumstances as the above)

Got my copies of Thrust and Spectrum today as well. Listening to Thrust right now which is crazy discrete. Spectrum will have to wait for tomorrow. I still need to open my copy of Wise After the Event as well. And The Fugitive is on its way. Not a bad week for surround!

Does anyone know if the CD~DVD Rick Wakeman Journey to the Centre of the Earth April 8th release includes a lossless 5.1 remix of this original vinyl release? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Journey-Cen...y+to+the+center+of+the+earth&tag=acleint06-21

More information has not been provided yet, but it is widely believed that the DVD will be like the ones for "Six Wives" and "King Arthur" and will have a high-res stereo remaster of the original mix and a high-res vinyl rip of the Quad mix.

I love the way the Quad of Thrust showcases the beautiful (now vintage) synths across the rear soundstage...
Thank you AF, gorgeous disc.

What's Wise After The Event again?
(memory's almost full..! )

Anthony Phillips! About to throw it in now. Just finished Spectrum. Very sweet. I like the fidelity better than Thrust. I thought both Thrust and America's Hearts had pretty dull sounding snares and was starting to worry that something was wrong with my system. Not the case with Spectrum, the drums have a gorgeous sound. From the Wikipedia page:

Ken Scott, producer and engineer of Spectrum, on recording Cobham's drums: "Bill Cobham's drums were treated in exactly the same way as I recorded every other drummer. I just used more mics: Neumann U67s on toms, D20s or RE20s (at Electric Lady) on the bass drums, Neumann KM54 or 56 on snare, and either STC 4038s or Beyer M160 ribbon mics for the overheads. One other thing: in order to dampen the snare, Bill just laid his wallet on the top head."
