But...as the OP said, this has indeed been an expensive year for music. A good thing for all but the bank accounts, I guess.
I wonder if anyone has tabulated what EVERY surround release, in every form, would have cost for 2024? (e.g. I often buy the IAA releases...) Or even only the physical releases? I would think it would be in the 4K$ US range for the physical releases only?

I did start a thread back in 2023 for what it had cost ME, not sure I want to start one for this year..or should I ?..nevertheless it’s been a banner year as far as surround releases are concerned…and the temptation to buy or not to buy will always remain I guess!!

I am listening to the upmix right now. Not on atmos which I do not have, but the 5.1 version.
I am underwhelmed. Sure the sound from the front speakers is superb but there is almost nothing happening in the surround speakers.
But if a disappointment, although to be fair I'm not sure what I expected from an upmix.

I'm very glad there are several of you who volunteered to act as guinea pigs :devilish:. I'd never order an upmix without, at least, hearing a few opinions first!

I'm quite curious because this is a good album, even though, to date, I think I've never heard an upmix that has ultimately been more satisfying for me than a decent master of a good stereo mix.

Dusty Grooves came through...well...they shipped the "deluxe box" to me earlier today. I call it "deluxe box" because I still have serious doubts that it's truly the boxset due to the total price of $36.06 including tax/shipping. I'll know soon enough.

They gave me a tracking number, and it's shipping out of Chicago! Only couple hours north of me. It's likely I'd see it Monday then as USPS doesn't deliver on Sundays here.

Per info at Hoffman, I pre-ordered the 4CD/BDA set for US $29.99 + $3.07 tax. While not obvious, if I click on shipping, it says $4 flat rate for a box with any amount of discs in it. That sounds bizarre. Why do I trust them? lol

Dusty Groove is the vendor, who I've never heard of.
EDIT - while I was getting my account set up, I see Ryan posted a link to them above.
Dusty Groove is a brick and mortar record store in Chicago. I’ve ordered from them at least twice and have had no issues.

I decided to be patient, and had added this title to my Watch List at Dusty Grooves a while ago, after seeing this price mentioned earlier in this thread. I got an alert yesterday and immediately placed the order, which today was confirmed and has shipped. (I may have gotten the last one, since it immediately switched back to Sold Out.)

The price does make me suspicious, but the listing is very clear, so I have no reason to believe they are shipping a different version; we'll see soon enough. FWW, I've had nothing but good experiences with them--great prices, very well packaged damage-free orders, etc. If you're willing to wait, it can't hurt to sign up for an alert and hope for the best.

When we say "upmix", does that mean that multitrack tape no longer exists? It makes no sense to release a Blu-ray disc with 5.1 or Atmos when the digitized multitrack tape is not available.

What I would like to hear are Demis Roussos' albums remixed in Atmos or 5.1 Surround on high-definition Blu-ray. His 1973 album Forever and Ever is wonderful. It would be amazing to be able to hear the songs: My Friend the Wind, Goodbye My Love Goodbye, Forever and Ever, Velvet Mornings remixed in 5.1 Surround 192kHz/24bits. I hope the multitrack master tape still exists on Universal Music, it would certainly be a sales success. Who else would like to see Demis Roussos in Atmos or 5.1 mix?
