Shikoku, likely I'm not alone in sharing your pain. You've certainly hit a nerve.
On one hand, these artists deserve the right to earn a living, even from work done decades ago. So, they and/or the companies want to "cash out" on the product and intellectual property, like publishing. Undoubtedly, that is also their right.
Still, I too feel I'm being played for a sucker by much of this product. Admittedly, it is my choice as to how to spend hard earned $$$. For most of my adult life, I've been able to buy nearly every new release I wanted the day it dropped. Because I worked for years for a sister co of CBS/Columbia records, I often got promo only product and official releases in advance. I was also a friend and "good customer" of many record store owners, so often I'd buy product prior to the date it dropped. You might say I "subscribed" to hundreds of artists. Still do.
Now, I buy fewer titles than ever, yet I spend far more $$$ than ever for less. There's very little I buy when it hits the street, other than super duper uber deluxe, BD, SACD, and/or surround product. I put priority on acquiring new 5.1 mixes. Reissues of Quad mixes often take precedent over all else, even though I already own original Quads of those titles.
I've done very few conversions. I bought hundreds of Quads as new releases 50-ish years ago. And there will be more Quad "legacy polls" soon. My apologies in making that a low priority, due to life getting in the way. Thanks to the other Mods for helping out by creating some new polls. I've been here, but doing too much QQ on the phone on the fly. Thanks to all for your continued patience. Most of all, those who have also heard these old Quad titles need to comment. Otherwise, it becomes one-dimensional with only/mostly my poll ratings and comments. Boring...
What other aspect of collecting has suffered? Owning new music and new archival releases upon release have suffered. People like Miles and Dylan for example have a few later new and archival releases that I've yet to acquire. I'm a completists and caught them both live many times. SACD's & uber deluxe are the reason for these gaps.
Life is a matter of choices and priorities. So, limited releases take priority, even over things I'd rather buy, but aren't limited releases. More choices are beneficial, but stretch the finances to the breaking point.
Beatles completist FOR SURE! Still, no surround means Revolver deluxe goes on the back burner. Likely, I'll get caught up on Miles & Dylan before buying this. I already own Revolver on MoFi LP Collection box (best analog), UK Rolltop 2h CD Collection (best RBCD), Japan mono CD box, US 2ch CD collection (remastered), UK mono LP in red mono box, UK blue LP collection, US albums 2ch & mono CD box, and mint US 2ch LP. Bought this 11 times, incl orig US 2ch and original US CD.
