I hope they release the BD-A separately in the near future. I neither need nor can afford five discs of Van Morrison. A five-disc set of Scheiner's missing Steely Dan 5.1 mixes on the other hand.....

well, Warners are clearly not going for the HFPA blu-ray route with this legendary album at least.. no fears on their part of destroying the integrity of the original by releasing a surround mix when it was originally released in stereo!

now either this is a blip or a bit like Universal's Deluxe Editions which occasionally also have blu-ray audio discs in 5.1... or Warner have decided not to go with HFPA after all, in which case Universal can't pull off this new "format" all by themselves! watch this space! :p

ps. Just in case someone at Universal is reading this..

Do you see how many people are requesting those unreleased Steely Dan 5.1 surround mixes that are all ready to rock & roll..?? Ditch the attitude towards 5.1 and get some out there on blu-ray pronto!!! ;)

High Fidelity Pure Audio:
We've been working really hard at Universal Towers to bring you some great repertoire on HFPA in Q4. We're finally going to announce some of this TODAY! What would you like to see announced?

5.1 please. Blu ray Audio ONLY appeals to a small niche market so give us what we want!

WOW! Freakin record compaines seem to screw the artist on a regular basis. I firmly belive the production and work belong to the artist. For a comapny to just "take" what was done with passion and love obviously is a crime in every sense. Because of this, I will NOT be buying this production, as much as I love Vans work. IT's just not right!

The Van Morrison release (while the ongoing feud between Van Morrison and Warners is a shame) is not part of the Universal HFPA blu-ray audio programme, so reference to it doesn't belong here in this thread, in all fairness :)

Well this one is a new one.

We are delighted to confirm the High Fidelity Pure Audio release of Queen - A Night At The Opera. This will be in stereo and FULL 5.1.

For the seasoned Queen fan you already know how fantastic this album is.

For the less seasoned Queen fan, the 1975 album contains the iconic Bohemian Rhapsody and is world renowned as one of the greatest albums of all time. We'll have more information on a release date and geographic availability to come. North American fans - YOU WILL NOT BE LEFT OUT!

And the new HFPA release is... "A Night at the Opera" by Queen... :zzzzz
It WILL have 5.1 though, which is a start. Now if we can only convince them to release unreleased 5.1 mixes. Guess we'll have to convince them with our wallets...

imagine if the first UK 5.1 HFPA had been an unreleased Elton or Steely Dan surround mix instead...@: ..here's hoping this is just the start of many more including those that never saw SACD or DVD-A release 'back in the day'!

Obviously the Queen disc isn't our first choice for a 5.1 Blu-Ray, but it's important that they get the old catalog warhorses out there to build an audience for this new format. Imagine the guy who's just bought his first Blu-Ray home theatre in a box, loves music and stumbles on this? I'm sure we all have our own memory of the first time we heard music in 5.1 and were blown away by it, or we wouldn't be on this forum. It's important that this continues to happen, and with 5.1 music on Blu-Ray and home theatre systems that only require a couple of HDMI cables to connect, it's getting easier and easier for the average person to experience high quality, high resolution music in surround which I think was one of (if not THE) major stumbling blocks in the uptake of DVD-Audio and SACD.

It's a good thing this BD 5.1. Today the avg. Joe may have a HT setup-at min. a sound bar.I always thought it was a perfect way to get people turned on to 5.1 music. Correct about HDMI and the ease of connections and use. We will see if it takes off. I tell them all the time, if you thought the movies sounded good-get some music, mostly the answer is" I never thought of that" "I'll try it". Even now talk about even quad and you get the"look", WTF is that?

It was one of my first if not the first as well happy days when all seemed so optamistic in 5.1 world

it ain't over for 5.1 til the fat lady at the night at the opera sings! :p

I'm not thrilled about this coming out again but its at least 5.1 and a bit of a headline grabber for people beyond hardcore surround devotees like us QQ lot. If only it were to be the start of a wave of Queen albums in 5.1... now THAT would be something to get excited about..!!!!
