I wouldn't get your hopes up Adam...
Ha! my HFPA hopes are dashed Mike! here on in I'm keeping my HFPA Hexpectations hellishly loooowwwww
I wouldn't get your hopes up Adam...
what do you reckon the "technical error" is really some chump at Universal woke up and realised the disc is actually STEREO ONLY..?!?!? @:
I fear the worst...
For what it's worth, I wrote a very long letter to whomever it may concern at Universal last night. In recent weeks, a certain 'rogue' individual has decided to openly criticise me and some others over at the HFPA Facebook page and at sa-cd.net, as well as making an unwelcome return here before the mods picked him up and kicked him back out again for good. His reason for the criticism? I dared to have the audacity to use the recent XTC and Yes releases as an example to demonstrate to the team at Universal of how Blu Ray Audio can and should be done. Myself, and those that appeared to agree with me, were labelled by this individual as "trolls", amongst many other "terms of endearment" and accused of not getting behind the HFPA campaign. It probably had more to do with the fact that Steven Wilson was involved, as this individual is known to not be a fan
Well, like Adam here, I've grown tired and exasperated at failure after failure by Universal and refuse to throw any money at their titles anymore, especially when the value demonstrated by albums such as 'Nonsuch' blows any effort by Universal out of the water.
So, fed up of having pointless arguments and being called numerous and questionable names by sad, lonely muppets with far too much time on their hands, I was inspired to write a letter to Universal, in the hope it may garner a response from someone outside of the marketing team. It was lengthy, polite, measured, rational and reasoned. There were no swear words, no heavy sarcasm, no abuse. What I did include, however, was an invitation to engage the target market, communities like ours. I repeated that invitation a few times, supporting it by saying that none of us were here to crucify them or shut them down. I made it clear that, in my opinion, every single one of us wants this project to succeed, but more importantly, we want it to succeed because they do it right. We want to see a major label, with the access it has to a vast catalogue of amazing material, step up to the mark and deliver quality products with superb value, just like Ape and Panegyric are doing right now.
So, it got sent last night. Do I expect a response? Probably not. At best, I'm expecting a cursory acknowledgement from a member of the Marcoms or PR team. However, I may be surprised. And if my requests are entertained, I will indeed report back.
I take my hat off to people like Adam who've 'taken one for the team' by purchasing these discs and reporting back on them. It certainly helped me and many others dodge the ball on some humdingers. Thank you for your efforts, sir
Finally, I am expecting a delivery today. Well, two actually. One from Amazon that I hope will contain my HFPA version of 'Tommy' (why is that not listed on the Universal page?) and the Blu Ray of 'Grace for Drowning' by Steven Wilson. It is sad that I already know which one will deliver the most value.
Rob, what's the chances of you making an entry on your HFPA experiences in your Failed Muso Blog?
I predict a diet!
oh no, that'll come after Christmas!
I predict a RIOT!!
NICE ONE! You're a star!
Please do let us know the response you get.
..if any! those HFPA buffoons have never responded to any of my emails to this day.
as you've said right here I've been one of their biggest champions (going through a mixture of hope and dread with every new release!) though maybe the HFPA lot don't appreciate my candid "critique's" quite as much as my blathering on about the 3 titles they've knocked out worth keeping...!?
I'm hopefully about an hour away from 'Tommy' arriving. Any idea why that isn't on the HFPA schedule? It is a Universal disc, is it not?
Fairly high. Higher if I get a response
I'm currently on that 5:2 diet. If I saw a riot, I'd probably eat it. My two cats are avoiding me on my two fasting days. I think it was when I started seasoning them that they got suspicious
I'll certainly report back, but like you, I fully expect either zero response or some vague and glib, non-committal response that was drafted by some PR minion. The overall gist of my missive was an invitation to engage with us, the overall community. However, seeing as they went right on out and did stuff without engaging us anyway, I don't hold out much hope!

Sadly, despite paying for 1st class delivery, and Amazon claiming the item was dispatched on the 19th, 'Tommy' didn't arrive today as scheduled. However, Burning Shed came up trumps with my SW and No-Man discs
Time for a new title! We are going to start announcing these over the next few days, starting this afternoon. Your first clue is that this artist is perhaps one of the most well known artists in the world and in the history of modern music. We'll drop a couple more hints before we announce later this afternoon!
my mate's on that 5:2 diet, where you fast for 2 days, it really works! he's all lovely and trim now!
your poor moggies! between the looming threat of being eaten by their daddy and daddy inflicting Hi-Rez ultrasonics on their little lugholes, they're probably going slowly out of their bonces!
oh too true.. whatever reply you get, if any, will doubtless be a load of hooey!
if it's any consolation my Tommy hasn't turned up either..
Just posted on the HFPA Facebook page:
Let the speculation begin!
(PLEASE let it be ELTON! PLEASE let it be 5.1..!!)
either way, its a win/win for me!
Just had a reply from Universal...
<drum roll>
My communication is welcomed and has been passed on to someone who is better placed to respond.
<sigh>
In other words..
"We can't be arsed, so we chucked it in the bin"
The optimist in me hopes you're wrong.
The pessimist in me thinks you're right.
So they're "perhaps" one of the biggest artists in the world..
..and they're "a male"..
ok, so it's Yellow Brick Road (again).. in stereo.
