No mention of defective recording on the stereo tracks. People need to know if they are buying a good disc, just my opinion.

That's exactly the reason why i've asked for the four disc matrix, bad and good.

It's the old (faulty) one. Catalog number on the listing is 603497880669-8, which I just replaced with my Dr Rhino replacement disc. It has a different catalog number.

for that price, better to go for the whole box set.

AFAIK, there are no corrected sets. You buy the set, and if the two discs are faulty ("Chicago [II]" and "Chicago IX: Chicago's Greatest Hits") you email Rhino to send you the corrected discs, but you are right in that the issue only affects the stereo mix on those two discs. There's nothing wrong with the Quad mixes on any of these discs.

My replacement discs came today. Have not had a chance to compare matrix numbers but I'm sure I was sent corrected ones.

Quite right - but I didn't have the discs at hand at the time so just posted what I knew. Here's the info on what I call the catalogue number. These are the numbers that are printed on the of the label side of the disc.

Chicago II

Original (flawed) No: 603497880669-2 (white font)
New (fixed) No: BA2-553946-2 (black font)

Chicago IX (Greatest Hits)

Original (flawed) No: 603497880669-8 (black font)
New (fixed) No: BA2-553946-8 (black font)

Interestingly, the numbers for the corrected discs (starting with BA2) match the numbers on the cover spines.

I sometimes measure this by comparing the box for the set against the cost of getting a decent copy of the vinyl/DVD of the album(s) I was interested in. It can work out cheaper getting the new set!

My original Greatest Hits has the black Rhino logo just like the replacement. Original Chicago II has black font, just like the replacement. Both original and replacement Chicago II discs and both Greatest Hits original and replacement say "Unauthorized duplication".
So I would say the only way to be sure you got the corrected discs is the matrix numbers on the data side.

Hmmm... I wonder if my original discs had those other differences because they came from the UK originally? Seems likely.

So cancel your order, call the bank and cancel the transaction and order it from Amazon. You will have it in two days. Complaining on an Internet forum will not solve anything.

Just did that after posting...haven't called the bank cause they have already charged me, so it's up to the Spin CDs people to refund me.
