I've downloaded it and burned onto DVD-R but it won't play on my Denon 2200 universal player or on my computer, which also has a DVD-A player. What am I doing wrong?!? Please help.

I’m not sure how to put this but, this is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in this hobby.

Perhaps my fourth version of DSOM, and all of them are great. But this, this is ..... wonderful.

The voices, the voices are what get to me. Ordinarily lyrics are not the first thing I think of with this album but here, they reach out and surround me. They breath with me and sing with me.

I’m not sure I’ll give the multichannel effects the nod over the 4.0 Quad version yet, but there is no comparison for impact, stereo separation, full sound envelopment, and ...

Full freaking LFE !!!

Btw: freaking cool video.

I used Nero to "burn image to disc" rather than any of the DVD copy menu options but this is all new to me. It plays fine on my 2900

Cheers

I used ImgBurn to burn the image to DVD+R disc. It was simplicity itself and the disc works fine in my Yamaha S2500.

I would have advised the maker NOT to put anything in the LFE channel, and just let people's setups do bass management of 4.0, but that's
just me. The transfer sounds very good.

Okay, second warning, you guys need to stop providing instructions on how to retrieve and/or create this disc in the public forums. As stupid as it may seem, the Evil Empire has asked QQ to remove such material in the past.

In case this helps.
I do not normally want to own free downloaded music, but this is a special case.
I own the official SACD surround release,
The quad LP
The regular LP
The regular CD
The MoFi CD
The MoFi LP
All bought at retail, except for the quad LP, bought used.
I know that technically this does not excuse downloading another version without paying, but the band will just have to excuse me if I don't feel like a criminal. If they ever do release an official version of this quad mix, I'll be first in line to buy it.

Don, I agree with you 100%, and I think the majority of us here are in the same boat. There is no problem with discussing this title, as long as we don't publically provide instructions on how to obtain it or create it. Let's just keep the discussion on track with how cool this thing is! There are plenty of other places on the 'net to find out how to get it... Remember, Google is your friend! :D

We should all heed Cai's notice. This given thread has already been linked to a large number of forums, with an endless number of off-shoot threads from those. No mistake about it... This unofficial DVD-A release is making big news, but the QQ shouldn't inadvertly get slapped on the wrist because of it.

I hope that the powers that be wouldn't freak out about this making the rounds. Let's face it, the band has made more money off of this album than any other probably in the history of rock. If anything, I would hope that they see the fact that it is becoming VERY popular and that it would encourage tham to put out more of their catalog in multichannel.

I do agree than if we can do our part to keep this board from shutting down because of this, we should. Use the newsgroups instead to find out how to get it.

Guys, I've said all along, feel free to discuss this title, and if you like, you can express intrest in "generic" use of CD burning software, etc.

The only thing that Cai and I would be concerned about is if it became "the place to get this thing is over at QQ". Our members can be very active in archiving and preserving their owned material, we just don't condone distribution! As for this title, we may not know the details, we may not know the heritage, what we do know is that the disc itself sounds freaking fantastic.

We also know that anyone who would bother joining here (or at the earlier QQ's) will already own multiple versions of DSOTM already, from 8 track/cassette/LP/QLP/SACD/reel.

One thing I will say, however. Most of us "quad guys" are, well, let's face it, "older"! :D We come from the school where we BUY our music, we want to hold the jacket in our hands, read the liner notes, see the title on our shelves. Today, the "kids" don't feel the same way. If we were kids today, we'd probably all have iPods and be downloading everything too. I am not knocking that, it's the future. :(

What I'm getting at is that for "us", we don't have a lot of experience downloading ISO files, burning CDs, etc etc. Some of us can do it, to some of us, it's a mystery. There is no crime in that. So helping someone out is OK.

Posts like "ssully's" are meant, and taken, as a positive assist to members, and are fine in that they do not say:

Download here
Do this

Please do not get that detailed here. (Heck, I don't even know where exactly to download it.) Just keep it generic, and all will be fine.

In the meantime, keep on discussing this great gift from somewhere!

Yeah, I haven't seen any posts that I feel need to be deleted. Just call me a Nervous Norbert... trying to keep things in check before they get out of hand... but again, nothing has been posted so far that I feel is a red light... just a couple of yellow lights is all.

Just found this thread...please send me a PM on how to get a copy for myself:).

Can't wait to check it out!!

Not all of the "young crowd" settles for downloading everything. In fact, I'm quite proud of my self, I've managed to build up a "library" of 19 High Resolution titles (including this Dark Side of the Moon we're talking about here).

I realize that I don't tend to be the "norm" when it comes to folks my age, but I'm not alone in my age group. Everyone of my similar aged buddies that I've had a chance to share the surround sound with has come away impressed. In fact, I know I've sold at least one of my friends on the technology (who did buy a DVD-A player after hearing "Brain Salad Surgery").

I think that in time, there will be downloadable High Resolution audio available for surround sound, and when that happens I'll gladly sign up, and I'm sure plenty of my friends will too.

I just posted about three paragraphs of impressions and it disappeared into the ether when I went to post. I will try again asap...

Let's try this again...just heard it...

1) the SACD is the best version, sonically, as far as fidelity - still, the quad mix is an incredible-sounding, 30+ year-old master, and was mixed using the technology of the time. If this is not the original 4-track quad master (which I'll bet money it is), it's at least a safety. That being said...
2) lead vocals are so much more satisfying in the quad mix. My biggest beef with Guthrie's version is that the lead vocals sometime sound thin, harsh, and "in your head" because they're also steered into the rears a bit. The quad mix keeps lead vocals warm and full and in the front soundstage (i.e. "Breathe").
3) the quad mix is less dynamically limited than the SACD! This is a big plus over the "state of the art" SACD.
4) the echoes in "Us Vs. Them" are unbelievable in quad. A quantum leap over the SACD!
5) the quad mix at times has less sidewall imaging and is more discrete in its placement of instruments than the SACD. I prefer the wider, "between the speakers" imaging of Guthrie's mix (except for the vocals). Still, the quad mix is delightfully entertaining and a beautiful piece of music history that's now available in a hi-res format. I can't believe it!
6) the DVD-A bootleg is indeed a professional-quality product. I'm in complete astonishment. I've never seen such a treat in my many years of listening to music.

As a Journalist, I would like to know who and how this came to be, but the Music Fan lurking within wants to hold out, just in case the original quad mix of "Wish You Were Here" shows up somewhere!

P.S. in that Sound & Vision article, Parsons states that he mixed the heartbeat right of center, as if someone were standing in front of you. In this DVD-A/quad mix, the heartbeat is clearly in the left channel. Are the front channels flopped?
