That's because these are new, original recordings by Dutton Epoch, not archival releases originally issued by other labels. They were recorded by MJD with multichannel playback in mind, not remixed for that format. However, like most modern "multichannel" classical releases, there is little to no discrete action; the rear channels offer mostly hall ambience.
I guess I missed that. I thought they were old recordings remixed to surround. Thanks for the info and correction! :)

That's how most legacy quad classical recordings were done too, nothing new about that approach. There are some quad classical releases that put you in the middle of the orchestra but not many.
And some have weird panning (I.E. Firebird conducted by Boulez)

The Pierre Boulez Centennial is coming up next year (2025), with big programs planned at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. I'd be surprised if we didn't see new or reissued box sets from Sony and/or Deutsche Grammophon. A good opportunity for Dutton here, too. We've already got Boulez conducts Bartok, Stravinsky, Ravel, Wagner...maybe Mike could round out the series with Varèse?

Or perhaps there's an unissued quad recording of Schoenberg's Moses & Aaron?

These wouldn't be big sellers, but as several people here have noted, Varèse in particular was an influence on several 70s pop & rock stars, from Zappa to Chicago's Robert Lamm, in addition to being a major figure in the history of electronic music.

As I've said many times before, I was never really a classical fan but always liked Boulez, starting with "Miraculous Mandarin", that I had on Q8 in the seventies. I've recently added many more titles to my collection, both DV releases as well as the original SQ LP"s. I will be adding more; I haven't come across a single release that I didn't care for yet!

If you can get a copy of the Duruflé Requiem, it's amazing!

Hmmmm, I gotta wonder why (or when) DV , can surprise us with some more from the olde RCA quad catalogue?
I'm hoping Harry Nilsson disc's are coming some time soon . I'd easily and happily pay double, for his Nilsson Schmilsson album , same goes for
Pussy Cats.

I must have this. Apparently this was Andrew Davis's only quadraphonic recording? Obvious reissue for Dutton.

The most traditional coupling by far is the Faure Requiem. Apparently there was a quadraphonic issue in Japan also owned by Sony. No clue if it's any good: https://www.discogs.com/release/817...kyo-Metropolitan-Symphony-Orchestra-Kazuo-Yam

How about both, on one disc?

I am listening to their latest release "State Fair". As someone who loves musicals this one was a no brainer. I cannot get over the wonderful surround sound mix that it is. Vintage quad at its best.
Good to hear. I ordered this one too, should arrive in the next week or so.

How about a 2 SACD set of Charley Pride quads...?

I'd be down for that. There's lots to pick from but I'd wonder if there may be issues with regards to the estate. I've heard rumor that's also the reason tying up anything from Jerry Reed and probably Waylon Jennings as well. But I agree; there's still lots to mine from the RCA catalog if everybody could get their poop in a group!

Jerry Reed
Waylon Jennings
Dolly Parton
Charley Pride
The Youngbloods
Jose Feliciano
Harry Belafonte

One that struck me the other day was Walter Murphy's "A Fifth of Beethoven". Who would control that today? The original stereo LP was put out on Private Stock but the Quad tape was only available through your local Ford Dealership as a white-label cartridge.... reproduced by RCA! So, would that particular 4-channel master tape still be in a Sony vault somewhere?
