Not for surround but a real good documentary I watched last night, Motown, Barry Gordy and Smokey Robinson where the hosts.

I'm checking out the Dolby Digital 5.0 mix, getting my kicks with one of the all-time great concert flicks. I'm in the midst of the action–wildly immersive, not relying on sonic tricks, and the combo of music and pix keeping hope alive opening my eyes and taking me to new highs. This snippet from the first cited review says it all: "The soul pulsates, the funk percolates and every performance is faultless and powerful. As great as the movie looks, the acoustic elements are equally outstanding." Most highly recommended! Righteous! Stay Surrounded, Comrades!

Since We lost Chick Corea, i've been revisiting one of my prized audio/video collections: DVD
...Score this if you can!
Might watch tonight. Is the movie good?Judas and the Black Messiah on HBO. The story behind the assassination of Fred Hampton. Just devastating.
Good score, built around Rahsaan Roland Kirk's "The Inflated Tear," by Mark Isham and Craig Harris. The 31-minute-long score album is streaming for free on YouTube & Amazon Music, though it shouldn't be confused with the "Soundtrack" album, which is also good, but (apart from H.E.R.'s "Fight For You," which plays over the movie's closing credits) is merely "inspired by" the film.
What's really notable about the film's music, though, is the rest of its score, which was produced with help from Jim Anderson & Ulrike Schwarz. Amazing tracklist, including tunes by Kirk, the Watts Prophets, Eddie Gale, and Horace Parlan. Mostly snippets, but the snippets have compellingly immersive Atmos mixes.

I first heard this on the SACD sampler, which made me know i HAD to have the whole collection, available on DVD. I waited long and patiently until i found it for $50 (made an offer–the packaging is damaged, but the discs are perfect)! What a jewel! I listen to the DTS 4.0 mix and it is truly transcendent! I'm right in the middle of sublime genius for hours and hours and hours–intimate, discrete, a real feast of sight and sound. Score this if you can! Long Live Corea! Return To Forever and Rest In Peace! Stay Surrounded, Comrades!
