Here's a really great tribute to Ric Ocasek, written by Griffin, with a fun After Hours anecdote:

BTW, James, GREAT Vanity Fair article by Griffin Dunne regarding his relationship with the late GREAT Ric Ocasekl! Since I haven't seen Scorsese's AFTER HOURS in YEARS did Ocasek ever contribute a song to the movie?

I watched Steven Spielberg's very personal THE FABLEMANS last night on Amazon Prime in 4K. It WAS an emotional experience as when I was a 'kid' all I ever wanted to do was MAKE MOVIE MAGIC! Where Spielberg's parents and even family were supportive of his efforts, mine were NOT insisting I take over the 'family business.....'

The acting from ALL the principles was supreme! 20 year old Canadian actor Gabriele LaBelle was especially effective as the young Spielberg and Michelle Williams and Paul Dano as his parents....equally superb! Those expecting an autobiography from the great director may be surprised to learn it mostly dealt with the blow young Spielberg experienced when he realized his mother was in love with his 'Uncle' Bennie played by Seth Rogen. For Sammy Fabelman [Spielberg's alter ago], it remained the mortal blow which remained throughout his early career.

And the only illusion to his future success in an almost impossible industry was his chance meeting with director John Ford played by film director David Lynch in a very memorable cameo role at the film's conclusion.

For me it was a very heartfelt production but I'm certain its lukewarm reaction at the box office was in deference to Sammy Fabelman's disappointment that his supportive and very loving parents couldn't support their own marriage during Spielberg's teenage years! And the anti~Semitism he experienced when the family was shifted to Northern California.

Nonetheless, as we all know, Steve Spielberg remains one of the most exceptional filmmakers of ALL time because angst truly supports the auteur's vision and ALWAYS HAS!

There are sometimes happy endings ... to SAD beginnings!

Available now from MDV Visual and director Samuel Tressler IV LEDA [1080p/3D/Dolby True HD 5.1]

Young newlywed Leda is haunted by strange visions in a hypnotic retelling of the Greek myth. A stunning and eerie journey into fantasy, Samuel Tressler IV's first feature transports the ancient myth of "Leda and the Swan" to the dark forests and deep lakes that surround a mid-19th century mansion. Stereoscopic imagery carries characters and the audience into a realm where dreams, nightmares and memories bleed together. Told without words and filmed almost exclusively in black-and-white, Leda invokes poetry and horror in it's fable of birth, death and other-worldly desires. Both 3D and 2D versions included on one Blu-ray disc.

Ain't never heard of this 'un but it's now on the list!

Just sat through my second viewing of George A. Romero's cult 1976 classic MARTIN and am wading through the very generous bonus features outlining the filming of this extremely low budgeted $75K production entirely shot on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, PA in a small town called Braddock!

Never realized it was a hit at Cannes but because of its low budget and the fact that the original 4 hour Romero cut was whittled down to just over 90 minutes at its producer's request, it never earned a wide release ...instead garnering scattered midnite showings.

Personally, it's an odd duck of a film and introduced a very young John Amplas in the title role who did a credible job as the boy who really thought he was a vampire ... and in the end paid a tragic price for it. And the grandfather, CUDA, played by a spry older gent named Lincoln Maazel is the father of famous international classical conductor Lorin Maazel! And Romero himself took a bit role as a priest and make~up guru, Tom Savini, also had the role of Martin's cousin Arthur.

Technically, the film was shot in 16mm and upon first viewing I was distracted by the VERY high levels of grain but [TWEAK ALERT] I then treated my disc with my magic disc potion and rimmed outer/inner edges with permanent black ink and wallah .... it looked like a different movie altogether. VAST IMPROVEMENT! And kudos to Martin's wonderful soundtrack which was repurposed for 5.1 from its original Mono! Really sounds fantastic and somewhat immersive considering its low budget origins.

All in all, if cult horror is your bag, either watch Martin on cable or pick up Second Sight's remarkable restoration but I did enjoy Martin and would love to have seen Romero's longer cuts which still may exist but probably only in black and white workprints ...... Martin was shot primarily in Color incorporating B&W/Sepia tones for its flashbacks. RECOMMENDED. [Native UHD4K/DTS~HD MA 5.1/Original MONO]

Yeah, I love that article. It's such a nice tribute.

I don't think he ended up doing a song for After Hours but he did one for Scorsese's The King of Comedy a couple of years before. I haven't seen it since reading the article but don't recall hearing an Ocasek song in there. It's been a while though!

Funny, there's an unofficial release of a soundtrack for the film:
