Anyone heard news of a sequel (or maybe even prequel) for Alita Battle Angel? Seems there would be a rich canvas left either way for this character.

Watched that again a few days ago, and feel like with the advancement in Film and Audio tech in the last few years; hopefully it could be even better.

Agree Pupster liked Alita especially in 3D. A rich world to mine in prequels and sequels.....
With 9 volumes & 5 years worth of manga there certainly should be a substantial bit of material to use for sequels. However the movie starts true to history with vol1, page 1 of the manga so any prequel would be new fiction & I'm not sure if it would sit well with dedicated fans of the manga.

In the original story the towns name was Scrap Yard changed to Iron City for the movie. In both it was construed to be some where near Kansas City which is a hoot. The whole audience chuckle aloud in the theater when this popped up:

Interestingly this a a story beloved by the Japanese, but was never made into a proper anime series. There are however 2, 30 min OVA's representing the first two volumes of the manga. It never evolved further because the author was too busy to supervise the project. After seeing the movie it's big fun to watch the anime and compare. Anyone wants to watch, just drop me a PM.

Edit: my last comment was a hint to share files I have but there is no need. I just discovered the anime OVA is on YouTube!!

Edit 2: I just looked closer & see this is dubbed & I prefer subbed, maybe you do to. Also the 4:3 original ratio is stretched to fill 16:9 and looks awful. So offer still stands.

I wouldn't mind new writings from her time as a Battle Angel, before the first movie and how she ended up in the scrap yard. Actually it might be better to do that before deep diving into all the later sequels, but that's just my opinion - as in, more could be better... or not!

However, I've never read the stories, so maybe they get into all that later as in flashbacks?

I have attempted to speed read this manga published by Viz at my friends house in bits and pieces. So I don't have a complete picture. However after the film came out there was a good review of the original manga on My Anime List. Part of it:

"But if the movie left you wanting more, there are a total of nine volumes (in the Viz English-language translation) in the original Battle Angel Alita series, plus a sequel series and a prequel series."

So there ya go. Material to be creative with. However if I read this chart correctly budget was 170,000,000 and global total for theater showings was $404,980,543. It made money but it wasn't the runaway hit that movies like Guardians or Deadpool was. I think a sequel is iffy. But I would go see it!

With AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER grossing well over $2B worldwide as we speak, James Cameron is now KING OF THE WORLD [HEH, HEH] and should now FINALLY pave the way for his long awaited Native UHD4K release of THE ABYSS. The Film has already been prepped for 4K and should be released by year's end.

Wonder if they'll also do a 3D version ...... Hmmmmm! My guess.....YES!
