Agree, but wish they'd gone the extra mile and did a Native UHD 4K release ..... but as it is, it's a wonderful upgrade.
The 3.0 Perspecta soundtrack sounds interesting. I wonder how it would sound if I ran the left and right channels through the SM. Probably some sort of 5.1 I guess.
The cover says 2 and a half years in the making. Reminds me of a Mongolian movie I have that said 5 years in the making. Sword and the Dragon.

The Perspecta track is an entirely in-phase process so (hypothetically) a SM would still have nothing in the rear channels.

For "This Island Earth", we worked from an original Perspecta track with the control tones still intact. While much has been made of the Perspecta panning effect over the years, the system also allowed channels to peak higher if needed or almost completely shut down (a quasi-dynamic range expander if you will) and with each channel being able to lower and gain independently, have music swell up in all three or two channels when called for, and even then, adjust gains according to the music needs.

It's not a perfect system to be sure, and when mixing aggressively as was done with this title, there are even cases of original mixing errors. That aside, the 3 channel mix for me is amazing to hear and still often astounds to hear this track and realize "this is a mono track source being remixed by three control tones!"

This cover is gorgeous. One of, if not, the best looking one in my collection. The one I have looks slightly different / better than the one pictured above.

You twisted my arm Perp ..... a definite purchase from Best Buy. I'm a SUCKER for steelbook editions and glad this one doesn't disappoint. Some ARE BLAND! I wish more UHD 4K and 3D combos were offered for sale. Well worth it!

Any store vs. online savings?

NO, Mike. If you go through Amazon you'll probably end up paying more. Best Buy's your best bet. $34.99 + $3.99 s/h unless you spend $50 to qualify for free shipping.

If you want the non steelbook edition, AmazonUS is cheaper if you buy from third party vendors [by only a few bucks].

White Sands (1992) BD:
1. The DTS-MA 5.1 has a few decent surround moments. Nothing earth-shattering but some discreet moments. Fidelity's really good.
2. Picture quality is great. A big step up from the DVD.
3. The late 80's/early 90's was a time for several solid, earnest thrillers aimed at adults and this is one of them. A decent story, well directed and acted, and with a great cast.
4. You can get the Region A/B/C BD here: https://www.amazon.com/White-Sands-...sands+blu+ray&qid=1564184188&s=gateway&sr=8-1

Doh! Us is only getting fair reviews. Me thinks I waits for the free version.

To be perfectly frank, Perp, I wasn't one who LOVED Get Out ...... I thought it was rather manipulative and knew the outcome from the first twenty minutes. Some reviews of US have been over the top and for $12.99 [it was a June 2019 release] it won't break the bank.

Actually, MOST new films are DUDs ..... I enjoy FIOS more [like HBO, Showtime, BBC offerings]......IMO, more EDGY and TOPICAL!

Well, Frank, I may have to take a gamble but don’t call me a gambler.
