So, I wonder if "Earthquake" ,"Rollercoaster" and "Midway" (and what other movie was Sensurround?) have a bass boost on the .1 channel of the DVD or BD...would also apply to the "Megasound" ones mentioned above...

One film I might add to the list of good surround movies is Dark Shadows, by Tim Burton. I can't really remember if the mix was aggressive, but it sure is immersive and the music is very good: killer score by Danny Elfman, and a bunch of cool songs from the yesteryears.
There's also a guest appearance by Miss Alice Cooper herself ! "...ugliest woman I've ever seen".

Oh , AWESOME, (thanks for reminding me!) I got this on DVD, I'm gonna watch it soon again just for the MCH goodness...BTW, LOOOVE Jonny Lee Miller's role on this!!! ...well I love him anyway...my wife sez that she would dump me if she had a chance...and I WOULD NOT BLAME HER!!! (I have an "Eli Stone" poster in my living room...and aamof, the end credits of Eli Stone is my ring tone for my phone in "Meeting" mode)

GREAT movie , BTW, and I always enjoy Danny Elfman's scoring, at least he doesn't steal and has his very own style...

Just discovered my DVD is missing, so I ordered a replacement BD.

Can't complain about the mix and bass on the newest Star Wars movie. Not surprising, the whole series have sounded great.

The opening sequence in Toy Story 2 is one of my demo faves.... Never fails to impress. So too the opening sequence in Casino Royale. Breaking Bad on blu-ray has excellent surround sound mixing and is of course coupled with fantastic writing and acting. Own it on blu-ray and is well worth the upgrade for sound quality. One of the worst in the series in terms of story is titled 'The Fly' but has great surround mixing of a fly literally buzzing around you. I'd imagine if there was an Atmos mix, then it would be amazing with the ceiling speakers.

The Star Wars films from the seventies we're done in Dolby and they are compressed you but I thought about it and you are correct about the ones that were made in the nineties my bad

All of them are uncompressed. Even the ones from the 70s are presented in DTS HD-MA. An improvement over the previous Dolby digital releases.

I don't believe that, it was well before the advent of DD even. The 1st SW was the 1st Dolby movie- and it was 4 channel. Derived from Quad. just mixed down different. There was no digital audio then, just analog.

In the movie business or the audio world there is tons of stuff recorded before DD on analog and later transferred over to uncompressed digital formats. I don't even know what you don't believe because your post really makes zero sense. Do you not believe it could be remixed into 5.1? Or do you not believe it was released in DTS HD-MA? They did both whether you believe it or not. Think of a movie like Blazing Saddles for instance, it was originally released in mono and later remixed to 5.1. Happens all the time and with good results based on the amount of resources put into the transfer. Actually I believe the Star Wars films were remixed to 6.1 with an additional rear center channel. They may one day do another remix to include 3d sound on either the Atmos or DTS-X format...
