The irony, Clement. This is among the 80 or so titles [this SUCKER] bought in the HD~DVD format. Haven't fired up my Toshiba HD~DVD player in YEARS. Wonder if it still works?

Very cool movie!
SO cool! i LOVE Bong Joon-ho! i am so excited for the upcoming Criterion release of Parasite (with BOTH color and B&W versions!) . . . 4K?

This is a GREAT mix. Thanks to my AMC thwater subscription, I saw this film many times during its run (and second run). One such time I ignored the subtitles and focused on the sound mix. So many subtleties that I wish more contained dramas would take advantage of.

Each setting has well-defined audio characteristics, all channels are used very well to maintain geographic sense of the main house, rears and sides are frequently active to indicate where off-screen characters are relative to the action on screen. We’re not supposed to notice it but I’d contend it immediately adds to the immersiveness — especially for audiences who tend not to like “slow” “dialogue-driven” movies or are easily bored by subtitles. It keeps part of the mind constantly engaged. The attention to detail is immense, whether in a house, the car, or the rain scenes in which the tone and texture changes between most shots.

More non-action movies should work On avoiding front-anchored sound design. I think it’ll pay off. Of course, I’m not exactly objective here. I’m looking forward to the Criterion disc and enjoy listening to the hi res soundtrack.

Hahaha funny story. As a fan of director Bong I knew I'd buy this when it came out on Blu-Rei. I did. As the check out guy at Best Buy was putting it into the bag he said" this is a great movie. I watched it the other night on Netflix". Well I had Netflix & it would have been nice if he said this before purchasing.... So I watched it on NF, left the BR sealed & gave it to my younger son in law who always wanted to see it but didn't about 6 months ago.

Great movie. And Bong's Parasite deserves all the praise it gets. Easily the perceptive creativity of Wes Anderson.

a VERY kind member hooked me up with the original "Star Wars" Theatrical Cut (no CGI ********) , which is available either on LaserDisc or on the 2003-4 Special DVD edition (which , ironically was sourced from the LDs and presented at 2.35 INSIDE the 4:3 ...think about it).... but it´s great to see the original cut with the Dolby Stereo (Surround) soundtrack....

Well it's becoming clear I could plop myself down at your place & be very happy at whatever you choose to play movies or music.

For my older SiL I got this for his last Birthday

He has a Oppo 205 so he can play 4K but "only" a high end Sony 1080 projector. General consensus is that 4K downscaled to regular HD still looks better than basic HD source. We've never got around to testing or watching it....

But in return for last Xmas he gifted me this:

well, when you plop down, you'll prolly be enjoying something you recommended to me! When you described Paprika as "so psychedelic and fun," i knew i had to see it--the blu ray was only $10, so i bit--and now i'm bitten! ima be watching this one again and again; not only because it is psychedelic and fun (with a wonderfully immersive 5.1 soundtrack!), but because it is also surreal and challenging! Thank you SO much for turning me on to this delight
