You just about give up hope of finding any non-PT/SW DVD-A news, but here it is as reported by Music Tap right now:

Of super interest, especially to Graham Nash fans (and Hollies fans and CSN/CSNY fans too) is the Rhino/Atlantic reissue of Songs for Beginners (1971). What makes this extra special is that it is a CD/DVD-A configuration with the CD containing a re-mastered version of the album and the DVD containing a 5.1 Surround mix and a Stereo Mix in DVD-Audio. The DVD will also contain a 2008 video interview with Graham Nash along with a photo gallery and lyrics. This digipak reissue is planned for September 23.

Wow... I remember reading where someone suposedly saw mention of this DVD-A for 2008 release alongside some kind of boxed set (???), but the link to the storefront that supposedly stated it never worked for me. So I didn't know what to think, other than figuring it was a possibility since we knew the mix existed (does anyone recall who did it?). Anyway... Looks like we'll maybe get it before year's end, afterall!

At minimum, it does alter the entire "what was the last corporately released DVD-Audio disc?" discussion. This has to be the end stage for a long standing committment; this title has been in "probably" mode for several years. I suspect it will be very similar to David Crosby's fine IICORMN release.

I am especially enjoying the fact that Warner/Rhino has to release it in at this late stage of the DVD-A game!! :D

I'm not a big fan of the early Crosby and Nash solo stuff...but it's not bad, and if this one happens, I'll be there. Pity, though, not likely to get CS&N or DEJA VU, which have their moments....

ED :)

Thanks for the tip!! That's a must-buy for me, one of my wife's favorite albums. The "Songs for Survivors" and "Another Stoney Evening" DVD-As get a fair amount of play around here. There's significant value in encouraging the spousal unit's interest in multichannel, methinks.

As I recall, weren't most of these songs about Joni Mitchell leaving him for James Taylor? It's a very emotional album with some catchy tunes and simple melodies. I played it a lot when it first came out, in fact I think I still have the songbook/musicbook.

At least it won't be an MVI disc! (Whatever happened to those! :D)

Nice to see this in the pipeline. It's one of my favorites among the CSN solo outings. I haven't been able to find confirmation anywhere else though. I've checked the Rhino, Pause and Play, Amazon and Graham Nash web sites with no luck. Has anybody found independent confirmation?

Warner to the rescue again, we really wouldn't have seen much of interest the last couple of years without Warner. I expect this one to be really good, Warner just does the best job with DVD-A in my opinion.

Holy mother.. A DVDA from Graham Nash and a who knows what package from with a 5.1 DVD of 'On An Island' from David Gilmour on the same day.

Late in the game? Oh, no... I've got a feeling that this is only the "beginning" for DVD-Audio. Better watch out mssrs. CD y MP3! This is "Team DVD-A" and here's the word: We're coming! We're Coming!!!

Now I just need to pick a side between DVD-Audio or SACD... and then I'll be ready to take on the world! Hmmm.... But first I must figure out whether to vote for Bush or Kerry. What year is it, again?

Artists can ask for DVD-A releases, if they know what they're doing.
Too bad this doesn't happen much anymore.

What of these artists and producers who have finished mixes that go unreleased? Where is that enthusiasm evident 5 years ago? Do any of the artists (other than Steve Wilson PT) really care?

Are there any surround panels and awards this year or did that fade away already? Elliot Scheiner? Greg Penney? Richard Dashut? Phil Ramone? John Kellog? Paul Klingberg? Jeff Glixman? WTF is this collective amnesia?

EDIT: Okay some of these names are mix engineers, but they are part of the collective silence...
