I've often wondered this myself. "Where ARE these people?" (Say it as Jerry Sienfeld would) :smokin

Face it, all their "inspiration and excitement" came from all the money they thought they were going to generate from multichannel sales. When there 's no big money involved, interest wanes. I guess I'm getting more cynical about it all. To make it worse, the record companies hoard the master tapes so that no one can make these recordings. I wish they would just let some small outfit handle these recordings and serve this market. Finish the mix, and just pack up the multitrack masters and send them to Fourquad records along with a stereo sample to go by. That was what was supposed to happen with Silverline, but when push came to shove, all they got were stereo recordings, and, well, you know the rest.

Jon - I had the same experience yesterday in my search which included Borders, CC and Best Buy. BTW, I was also looking for the Fourplay SACD "Energy" which was released yesterday. Much better luck today in NYC - Virgin Times Square had both! I'm pretty sure that J&R also has them - unfortunately, these two retailers and others like Newbury Comics are the rare exception these days.:(

...oh and their closing Virgin (both Times Square and Union Square) early 2009!

Elmer,
How many copies did Virgin have? I stopped by there this morning and there was nothing but one copy of "wild tales" and three copies of some Naked Brothers Band CD single in front of Nash's divder card.

If they had a few, there is obviously still some demand for this stuff.

Keep in mind that I was there on the day after it streeted (9/23) - there were at least 5 copies of the Nash. I had to dig around for the Fourplay SACD a bit - so I'm not sure - they usually only carry one or two of the Jazz SACDs - if they carrry them at all - I lucked out on the Fourplay. But if you're in the NYC area, you should check out J&R - they typically keep a decent quantity of MC titles - especially the new releases - you can usually find the jazz titles both in the MC section of the main store as well as under the individual artists bin in the Jazz store (upstairs) - good luck.

Thanks. I work in mid-town two blocks away from Virgin and was just wondering how to gauge the popularity. So there were at least 5 people who wanted to buy it in a week’s time. Not that bad for what sounds like an unpublicized release.

I picked up my copy at Barnes and Nobel on 5th in midtown. The clerk told me they had four in and was surprised that they are all now gone.

You mentioned J&R and I concur that they have a nice selection. Nice to see that they still keep an audiophile/sacd/dvd-a section. The inventory is getting thinner though.

What a joy to play this disc! I never owned this album back in the day so the songs were fresh for me. This is worth it for Better Days alone but all the songs are creative in instrumentation and the surround mix is wonderfully supportive. Not whiz bang and so well done that it's seamless in effectiveness.

Always glad to have a new DVD-A release and the music here, although brief album-wise, is well worth having for thoughtful repeat listening. The 2008 interview was great and the photography discussion held my interest throughout. I will be seeking out his book.

Seriously disappointed here.
Just got this in the mail today (Amazon.co.uk)

We are sorry to report that the following items have been delayed:

Graham Nash (Artist) "Songs for Beginners: (CD+DVD) [CD+DVD]"
[Audio CD]
Estimated arrival date: 17/10/08 - 24/10/08

We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

No explanation as to why.

Seems that it has sold out.
Just queried Amazon UK about this, telling them I do not understand why the order has been repeatedly delayed when it has been available elsewhere for 2 weeks now, and got this back:

Please accept our apologies that we have not been able to dispatch your order within the estimated dispatch date. We may need some additional time to obtain this item.

I have found that there is a delay with "Songs for Beginners: (CD+DVD) [CD+DVD]".

Sometimes unexpected fluctuations in supply can add time to our original availability estimate. We have learned that "Songs for Beginners: (CD+DVD) [CD+DVD]" is now back-ordered and we now hope that your order will be delivered by October 17,2008 - October 23,2008.

The availability and dispatch times listed on our website are estimates only, and not guarantees. While we do our best to stick to these estimates, our inventory is constantly changing based on information we receive directly from our suppliers, and occasionally, changes in our supply chain can add time to your order.

SO - once again we have the ludicrous situation where an unpublicized release has sold out, demand has bee much greater than the initial press run would suggest was anticipated, and you cannot but help wonder how many it would have/could have shipped with a bit of publicity.

Went disc searching today. I just saw 5 of these at the store, it was only at one store, all the other stores didn't have it.

Should I buy extras for those who don't have this?

Neil,

If you're still having problems I got my copy from HMV.com for a very reasonable £8.99. (y)

Me Too ! Its really growing on me . Very different to ' Survivors' but I always loved his CSNy contributions too. I think the few artists supporting mch should be commended and supported themselves

Best

So, got mine and it won't work with dvd audio chosen in the menu of my pioneer 578 a universal player. I have to use dvd-v and ignore advanced resolution 5.1. I have to choose between dolby and dts 5.1. Anyone else run into this?

The Pioneer 578 needs to have the firmware update run. Do a search and you should see past discussions. I have the link if you can't find it and could PM it to you, same thing happened with the Talking Heads discs. I finally got around to burning the update disc and running it and they all play now.
Cautionary Note: The bad part.... it turned the DVD player into a Black & White player! I have been through the routine of restoring the initial settings and have not been able to correct it. Anyone have a clue as to this problem? Of course, with the Nash disc it is not a problem, the accompanying video is in B&W! John S.

Well since the Nash disc is the only problem, I'll live with it it. Is everything B&W including movies?
