I've always thought of Under Wraps as JT's electronic album, especially with keyboardist Peter-John Vettese's influence, and the drums sound -- wait for it -- electronic. They might not have aged well, but that was certainly the intended sound then. It would be interesting to hear the songs with actual drums played by a drummer, instead of Ian Anderson and Vettese's programming, but it would be a marked change in the overall sound from decades' worth of listening. If the drums are redone, I hope there's an option to hear both versions. I love the album.

I like it. At least most of it. I wouldn't go as far as love. But Crest of A Knave is great because of Budapest, cha, cha, cha. IMO.

Even two albums later, on Catfish Rising, you could still hear a Mark Knopfler influence.

I've only heard and seen snippets of the live recordings from that period, but apparently they had a drummer when they toured Under Wraps, and interestingly it looks like they used both standard and electronic drum kits. I'm not much for live recordings, but some apparently like the live versions more than the studio versions. For me, I always thought the synths were better integrated with the Jethro Tull "sound" on Broadsword. But your mileage may vary.

Crest Of A Knave is the last studio album I really want to see get the deluxe treatment, and I'm glad that it's probably happening. Unlike some, I like the Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler stylistic turn IA took with this album, but it was short lived. Not sure I believe Under Wraps can be completely transformed with new drums, but at the least it will be an interesting experiment. If Bruce Soord mixes it, I wonder if they could talk Gavin Harrison into (re)doing the drums.

Crest of a Knave is an excellent album; one of their best. Not a bad track on it.
