I think that Jon and Neil are right. If we bomb company mailboxes, it can only turn out badly.
Nobody likes to be ordered to do something, and some fanboys can be pretty aggressive.
We would all like to see hi-rez multichannel releases, but we should be happy that we are getting them.
Personally, I could care less for Blu-ray audio. I prefer SACD, then DVD-Audio ... but we all have our preferences.

agree with you Quadzilla.

tempting as it is to stir the big boys into action and give us Hi-Rez, we don't want to piss the labels off, or they might pull the plug on these kinds of releases altogether.

frankly, it's 2012 and we are still getting "new" surround music!

I'm grateful for the likes of the Gentle Giant, ELO & TAAB2 4.1/5.1 DVD-V offerings from EMI we've had more recently (not so thrilled about EMI's 40th Ziggy DVD-V disaster but..) ... yes they could (and should) have been Hi-Rez but DTS is better than Dolby Digital -- and lets face it even Dolby D is better than no 5.1 at all..!

i quite thought multichannel would have shuffled off by now, especially as the music industry has progressively gone to the dogs, year on year, over the last 10 years-ish.. but here we are and releases are still trickling out - with some really lovely surprises, like the new Lynyrd Skynyrd DVD-A! long live surround!

..you prefer SACD? oh! that's SO Canadian! hehe! :D ;)

I prefer NOT to have to use a video monitor with my audio ... and SACD sounds better anyway.
If the geniuses who developed DVD-Audio had considered this (and they had avoided that whole DualDisc fiasco), they might have stood a chance.

Open tray, insert disk, push play, enjoy ... versus turn on monitor, open tray, insert disk, wait for menu to start ... you get the idea.

I just had a crazy thought!

What if EMI released TAAB as a CD/DVDV package and released the Blu-Ray disc with the vinyl version that is reportedly being offered too?

It wouldn't be the first time EMI packaged 5.1 surround with just a vinyl...

For the record, I would rather buy both a CD/DVDV version and a vinyl version with Blu-Ray than not get Blu-Ray at all.

After they are done releasing all of these boxed sets, I would like to see a boxed set of all the quad/surround issues like the Doors boxed set. Now that would be good, and it would be kind of a brick.

agree with you on that! it's even more of a pain/potential bulb killer, when you have to fire up a projector just to listen to some music, believe me!

altho the Oppo BDP-93 has a shortcut for DVD-Audio discs that takes you straight to the Audio_TS file, bypassing all the menu's & splash screens etc.. here's the tip:

"DVD-Audio discs have a "Direct Play" feature. After loading the disc, pressing Stop followed by Play on the remote will directly access the first Group/Title, bypassing any menu."

though I've not tested to see if that works for DTS/DVDVs as well, at least it neatly gets beyond the hassle of needing to have the tv on for DVDA's if you have the Oppo unit (and let's face it a lot of folks do now.).

the original TAAB LP artwork/packaging was so great I wouldn't be soo p'd off if the only way to get the 5.1 is with a slice of vinyl I'll never use, if the replica LP art this time round is fantastic!

The Bowie 40th LP packaging left a lot to be desired (cover art too dark, inner photos poor quality.. Etc..) so let's hope EMI don't goof on this one!

Some people don't consider using a monitor or having pictures with music to be a negative. And a dvd-a can be authored to start automatically.

I understand that some people think differently about using a monitor, BUT they could have designed the DVD-Audio format to please both groups.
Yes; it CAN be authored to start automatically, BUT it is up to each author. It is hit and miss with each disk, with no consistency and no format standards.

We should maybe not put so much blame on the authoring guys and gals either? I think the most reasonable would have been to implement user priorities in player settings. E.g. choose between stereo, mulitchannel or menu as preferred startup.

Here's a link to info about the TAAB/TAAB2 vinyl edition. No pic yet, but only the new 2012 mix of TAAB will be included (not the original 1972 mix).

We're now about 2 months away from the supposed release date, and still no pre-order info on amazon US or UK or info on Jethro Tull's webpage.

C'mon already! BRING IT ON!

This is probably the best year for SW remixes so far with ELP, Tarkus, Larks', and TAAB, compared to 2011 (Caravan, Starless & Bible Black, Discipline, and Aqualung), 2010 (Poseidon and Islands) and 2009 (Crimson King, Lizard, and Red) :)

For those of you who want a head start ordering this release...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thick-Brick...=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1346944091&sr=1-2

Still no info on amazon US yet, but now all the amazon sites are listing this set as 3 discs. So what are the 3 discs? Here's my hope:

CD: 2012 Remix with Bonus Tracks
DVD-V: DTS 96/24 and Dullbe 5.1, 2012 Remix, Original 1972 mix, and Bonus Tracks (at PCM 96/24)
Blu-Ray: Same content above but DTS-HD MA and LPCM 5.1 surround :)

Here's how it will probably be laid out:
CD1: 2012 Remix
CD2: Bonus Tracks
DVD-V: DTS 96/24 and Dullbe 5.1, 2012 Remix, Original 1972 mix, and Bonus Tracks (at PCM 96/24) :(

Interesting ... I tried to order it, but it won't accept the order to be shipped to my location. Hmmm.

I wonder if this is the same one ... http://www.amazon.de/Thick-Brick-40th-Ann-Ltd/dp/B008S6B480/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346946045&sr=8-1

thank you for the info!
November the 5th it is.. Firework Time!

what strikes me is that £26.95 is a lot for a CD/Bonus Track CD/DVD-V combo.

unless the price comes down closer to the release date (possible but these pre-orders can go either way as we all know!) this has to either have..
i.) the vinyl,
ii.) or a blu-ray,
iii.) or maybe two DVDs (one with the SW 5.1 mix and the other with video or audio only concert footage from the time),
iv.) or very elaborate packaging...

..as it's just not in line with what EMI have priced the "Gentle Giant", "ELO", "TAAB2" CD/DVD sets (£10-£12 depending on where you look). I know those releases were only 2 discs and this is 3 but I don't see how one extra CD could justify a £26.95 price tag..!?

very curious! Cannot wait to hear the 5.1! Please let it be Hi-Rez! Please, please, please..!!!!
