thank you for the info!
November the 5th it is.. Firework Time!

what strikes me is that £26.95 is a lot for a CD/Bonus Track CD/DVD-V combo.

unless the price comes down closer to the release date (possible but these pre-orders can go either way as we all know!) this has to either have..
i.) the vinyl,
ii.) or a blu-ray,
iii.) or maybe two DVDs (one with the SW 5.1 mix and the other with video or audio only concert footage from the time),
iv.) or very elaborate packaging...

..as it's just not in line with what EMI have priced the "Gentle Giant", "ELO", "TAAB2" CD/DVD sets (£10-£12 depending on where you look). I know those releases were only 2 discs and this is 3 but I don't see how one extra CD could justify a £26.95 price tag..!?

very curious! Cannot wait to hear the 5.1! Please let it be Hi-Rez! Please, please, please..!!!!

Definitely not any vinyl in this particular set cause the vinyl of the 2012 mix has its own package with TAAB2 here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thick-Brick...=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1346946694&sr=1-1

So it would either have to include Blu-Ray, or it's just really expensive...

5. Thick As A Brick (Part 1)
6. Thick As A Brick (Part 2)
7. Radio Ad (2012 - Remaster)

This new bit of information came from amazon.co.uk, and there's a few problems I have with it.

#1. It doesn't explain this
Number of Discs: 3
Now I understand amazon doesn't always post the correct number of discs for a release, but is it 3 or is it 2? Is there a Blu-Ray or this all we're getting?
#2 (and more importantly), the only bonus material they could give us is a Radio Ad?! JTull completists will be happy to see that it looks like we get the new and original mix on the DVD, but the 5.1's not looking like high-res yet. I just pray if all we're getting is DVD that EMI at least have the courtesy to make the DTS mixes 96/24...

Its just got to be Thick As a Brick re-mastered for the 3rd CD.

As I thought, Amazon has the incorrect amount of discs listed. I was confused by this since every other mail order website that has this up for pre-order has 2 discs listed.
Another little tidbit....and I mean little, but here is the cover of the TAAB CD & Audio DVD "Special Collector's Edition."

Also, 100 Page book!!

Edit: Still trying to make the picture bigger so I can read what the text says. I will get back to you on that.

To my eyes, the bottom right hand section says 'CD & DVD INCLUDED INSIDE. This special anniversary edition has a CD containing a remixed version of the album by local engineering whiz Steven Wilson. The DVD contains the album remixed in 5.1 surround sound, again by Steven, in both DTS and Dolby Digital. It also has high resolution stereo of the remixed album and the original 1972 mix. Read more on the back cover of this package --->'

So it seems the CD+DVD version is indeed DTS at best, as Steven mentioned previously.

Ok, I'm intrigued by this 100 page book if we really are getting one. It'll probably include the original 16page newspaper as well as the March 2012 PROG magazine interview on TAAB. The Aqualung book also included text from the tour programme, yearly chronology, and interviews with the original recording engineer & SW, so it's possible that we could be getting similar material in this package.

So it seems like EMI are giving us super deluxe edition packaging without SDE quality audio.
Now I can understand if there weren't any bonus tracks available for use, but I still cannot comprehend why EMI insist on giving us Audio DVDs instead of DVD-Audio or Blu-Ray! Now, as SW and others have said before, Blu-Ray is expensive to author, but there is NO good reason why they could not have given us DVD-A/V instead of just DVD-V. C'mon, if SONY can do it, why the hell can't EMI?!?!

Interesting ... I tried to order it, but it won't accept the order to be shipped to my location. Hmmm.

I wonder if this is the same one ... http://www.amazon.de/Thick-Brick-40th-Ann-Ltd/dp/B008S6B480/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346946045&sr=8-1

I am from Canada as well and noticed it would let me order. I tried getting it added to a older outstanding order with amazon.uk service rep via their chat option and they added it ok. This is weird so you might want to try that as well, make a order of something else and then have them add it after.

I'd buy if it was something along the lines of the recent ELP sets: CD + high res disc (DVD-A preferably).

Can't afford or justify a big box set with a bunch of stuff I'll never use.
That's why I was forced to pass on Aqualung.

I was forced to pass on the Aqualung boxset too, because of the price...

A CD + DVD-A package would be perfect for me, just like the Crimson/ELP ones.

I understand the reason for packaging a CD with the DVD-Audio disk ... costs almost nothing, and fits in the same package size ... but an LP makes more sense than a CD.
If you are a fan you likely have the CD (I have the MFSL Thick As A Brick CD), and I have never played ANY of the CDs that came with ANY DVD-Audio disk.
I DO play the Aqualung LP (and I have the MFSL vinyl and the DCC gold CD). It is an excellent pressing, and I would be happy to have TAAB on LP and SACD (oops, did I say SACD? ... I meant DVD-Audio).

the "Ten Years After" Quad to DTS DVD-V & Vinyl set thats coming on the 24th of this month (also from EMI) will have 24/96 DTS, according to the latest info about it on Amazon UK.. so it seems especially mad that the TAAB set would only have core DTS.

I so wish SW could put the thumbscrews on EMI, the way he did with the new ELP's, to get them to make this TAAB DVD-A too.

It just illustrates that the labels still treat multichannel music as a novelty, the musical equivalent of explosions and fly-overs in surround sound movies.

it's a niche market that doesn't sell enough to justify anymore than the scant acknowledgement it gets from the big labels now, it would appear.

so the major labels throw us crumbs every now and again when it suits them and they can't find anything else to add to justify reissuing the same old, same old for the umpteenth time.
