I wonder if Warner/Rhino has rights to Prince. I bet the estate controls all of it

Currently it looks like the bulk of the catalog is being distributed by Sony. However titles that were technically movie soundtracks (Purple Rain, Graffiti Bridge, Batman, Under a Cherry Moon) are still being distributed by Warner. A handful of later titles also appear to be under Warner, and the two final albums he released in his lifetime look to be owned by his label, NPG.

I'd love to see Huey Lewis and the News' breakthrough album, Sports. But I'm not sure if Chrysalis is part of Warner (who originally distributed the label in the US) or someone else.
In the US, Chrysalis moved from Warners to being distributed by various independent labels in the late 70s ,then to CBS in the early 80s and then to Capitol in the late 80s. I believe UMG has handled most of the old catalog titles ever since Capitol was folded into them, but it varies by artist. And I believe it’s a completely different matter in Europe.

but I’m pretty sure “Sports” is UMG. Same for the Blondie title mentioned earlier.

But no, the label hasn't been distributed by Warners in nearly 50 years. Although some of the Tull stuff is now.
