Sony STRDN 1080 AVR
Sony UBP X800 Blu-ray
I have a Yamaha AVR and the best of its faux surround DSPs is the Neural one. It does a decent job with some redbook CDs, but nothing to write home about. My brother has an Onkyo AVR whose PLII is absolutely amazing at resolving a stereo source discretely. Meanwhile, my Yamaha’s PLII blows. You’d figure the same DSP by the same developer would be equal AVR-to-AVR, but that’s not the case.
