Listening to in Dolby Atmos Streaming, via Tidal/Apple/Amazon

Iirc the band’s representative on their subreddit claimed there was an issue getting Vatari up everywhere in Atmos, but hopefully it’s mostly resolved. I asked them if they intend to do more, and they said “nothing to announce at this time”, which is one of those non-answers with a hopeful tilt…

I think I may recall seeing something about Valtari being Apple exclusive at least for a little bit but can’t find it anymore.

update: Tiny Dancer, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Island Girl & Someone Saved My Life Tonight are not in Atmos!

the 3 tracks (DLTS w/George Michael, Victim Of Love & That's What Friends Are For) that were never in Atmos on Diamonds are still not in Atmos and the 2 duet tracks are unavailable altogether.

Great news! For some reason I had to delete all the non-working tracks from my local Apple Music library before they showed up again as Atmos. Might be something to be aware of if there are future glitches.

You just have to give it time. I have my library loaded on two computers. When I heard Diamonds was back in Atmos. I checked them both and one was showing Atmos, the other wasn't. Today they both show Atmos without me doing anything, just a matter of when it decides to sync with the mother ship I guess.

Deleting re-adding loses ratings, play counts, etc. so I try to just be patient.

The GHS and Tattoo You tracks on Honk sound like upmixes to me (like most of this set except Living In A Ghost Town and two Bigger Bang tracks, I think). Given the difficulty in tracking down stereo masters for the Stones, I’m not shocked they didn’t (or couldn’t) remix to atmos from the multis. But they didn’t even bother with including the existing atmos mixes for GHS and TY is quite disappointing - and lazy IMO.

I don’t know if they went back to the multis for the live tracks to mix them to atmos (I doubt it), but they sound like live tracks should IMO - some ambiance in the surrounds to make them feel live.

For those who think the Atmos mixes for these albums were upmixes, just listen to the GHS & TY tracks back to back with the Honk versions.

The snare drum on the Honk version of start me up sounds so much better than the album version

It has that snare crack back just like the original

There are lot of atmos mixes done poorly where the snare drum loses its whack

Probably because the Honk version is just an upmix of some sort of the original stereo mix...

If a lot of atmos mixes sound like the snare drum loses it’s whack on your system, maybe the issue isn’t the mix?

It is the mix as it sounds the same on AirPods Pro and my 5.1.2 setup.

My neighbour also confirmed to me the same snare loss in high end and crack without me mentioning it

i should add this isn’t on all mixes just a few like start me up, bon jovi dead or alive and papa roach last resort come to mind

Yes--I think there are now 11 Gainsbourg studio albums in Atmos. (His debut album, Du chant à la une, from 1958, is missing.) Aux Armes et caetera should be next.

You know, listening to this again with ATMOS restored today and smiling because how good this music and the ATMOS mix sounds, even if lossy.

it does make me wonder why so many other ATMOS mixes go out that fail to take full advantage of ATMOS capabilities like this one? lazy up mixing? Less talented producers/mixers? poor quality multi tracks?
