I think this is a very cool mix. Listening to this always helps remind me of how great a job they did at EMI getting wonderful sounds tracked on tape.

Cool sounds good, also we're lucky in that the original Grover Washington song has a real nice Atmos mix. (And a great 5.1 Elliot Scheiner mix.) This was one of the singles done before the big Warner upmix scandal on loads of old classic songs...

This kinda fell under the radar as Tidal has the individual songs listed as different singles. And Apple has 3 songs (tracks 3,4,6) missing for me? Apple can be so infuriating with its single inventory process sometimes. Tidal links for the ‘album’. Also should be on Amazon…

I guess thats a loaded term for bad quad mixes and this wasnt bad, and it was immersive, but not a lot of discrete ear candy. I felt like there was a wall of sound behind me and in front of me, thats all. I prefer the quad but will give this a few more listens I'm sure.

It’s not just you. It has discreet elements throughout, tastefully done but it seems like he was going for a double stereo (if not triple stereo including the heights, which I didn’t notice much although I can’t say it wasn’t immersive all around me). It’s almost as though he didn’t want any panning to distract from people’s traditional relationship to the album.

It is a pity that the quadraphonic version done by Alan Parsons was not the reference used for this Atmos version. After all I believe the quadraphonic version was the closest spatial version in which the artists participated in.
