Absolutely not needed in my opinion. I'm myself mostly a 70's prog & hard rock, fusion, and metal guy, but my tastes certainly go beyond those genres and eras, and one of the beautiful things about surround music is precisely that it's been useful for me to discover nice music in other genres that I wouldn't have tried if it weren't for the multichannel "hook".
This! Exactly this!

That’s been one of the overall joys of this whole site... being exposed to music I would have never searched out on my own.

And this thread in particular is a huge part of me finding out about stuff that I normally wouldn’t have paid any attention to. I love the fact that what we see in this thread covers so much ground.

another artist i got the heads up on from Elton John's Rocket Hour Radio Show, Singer/Songwriter Tamara Lindeman, recording under the name "The Weather Station" has an album called "Humanhood" coming in the new year, with emotional lyrics and delicate vocals, here's "Neon Signs" (the other preview track so far, "Window", is in Stereo only)

it's the weekend baby so back to the bangers! 🫶🥳🤣 i excerpted my favourite tracks from Latin Dance act Vikina's ¿QUESTIONS? album (fear not, the lyrics, for what they're worth, are in English!) 😅

Anyone have any thoughts on the Rush self-titled Atmos mix? It’s the only one that hasn’t been remixed prior so I’m curious. If anything it’s good to know the multitracks are still available.

I’m really hoping for Caress of Steel now!
have only given it a cursory listen so far, felt kinda flat and Front-heavy initially.. great record though so i'll definitely be playing it some more over the weekend to see how it pans out ✌️💘

great stuff! 😍 well let's keep going with the Surround extravaganza from around the world! 💞🥂

here's a few tracks from Colombian singer/producer Ela Minus' forthcoming second album, with some dizzying pans thrown in for good measure!! woo!! 🥳

English Elecro-duo Maribou State have an album coming soon too, 4 tracks from "Hallucinating Love" are live so far, all in Atmos 👌😋

a Christmas Card from Spain, courtesy of David Bisbal 🎅🏻💘🫶

time for some boomtastic Afrobeats! 🙌🤩😅
from Lagos, Nigeria, it's Wizkid with their new album "Morayo"

the party's in full swing cos Jazzy's back ..and this time she's in Surround! 🥳😋🫶
her "No Bad Vibes" album's full of Dance-y belters, all good vibes man :smokin🍻

seems strange (and i feel old! 😂 ) referring to them as veteran Rockers but i guess that's where we are now, Three Days Grace's new single "Mayday" is good and Surround-y 🎸🙌😻

Swedish Singer-Songwriter Winona Oak's new single "My Body" with raw lyrics over a minimalist dance beat

you can hear and feel the layers in the mix building and building from delicate quasi-Quad to belting full-on Atmos, Heights and all, in Candian Singer-Songwriter Billy Raffoul's whimsical new single "How About a Drink?" 🤷🏻‍♀️ well how about it.. 😉🥂

fancy a glass o' "Pink Lemonade".. 😋😉 the new single from Indie Poppers spill tab will give your Sub a good ol' workout! 💪😆

"TYSM" (thank you so much! thank you so much!) 🙌😻 another boom-bang-a-banger from Cheat Codes with salem ilese 🥳

New York's Maude Latour bubbly Alt-Pop with an edge on their new album "Sugar Water" with some very active Surround including the Heights 💦❤️🤤🤩

"When A Thought Grows Wings", lovely lush second album with nice use of Surround from Canadian Singer-Songwriter Luna Li 🥰🌹

3 nice tracks so far from the upcoming album "11:11" from Biig Piig (aka Irish Singer-Songwriter Jess Smyth) with the cool kinda neo-Soul jams i dig 😅😋😍

a wider question might be, would it actually be welcome to start another thread for posting what we're listening to when it's new music/not Classic Rock!? 🤔

would QQ-ers actually prefer there to be yet another tier (or even granule! 😋 ) of the forum to offshoot to for "Listening to Atmos of new music that's not mainstream/classic albums"?

maybe we actually do need another Atmos listening thread for those who don't want to hear about newly recorded Pop music in Surround!?

if enough of us want it and the Mods are ok with it, i'd be happy to post in a separate thread 😀 it might even reveal how many people genuinely enjoy listening to newer music, it might surprise us how many do!? ✌️
personally i would like to have two separate threads, one only for old albums reissued in atmos, and one with new releases in atmos (this one).
in few years i guess all new releases will be in atmos and some reissues could became hard to be noticed.
frankly i don't like the idea to separate threads by musical genres, as i listen to many different types of music.

i'd like to give whoever's mixing the music of SAINt JHN in Atmos a big wet kiss 💋😆 because that certain somebody at the controls really knows what they're doing with the Guyanese-American singers’ material. it really shows Atmos can very much work for simpler tunes and sparse arrangements, in the right hands.

here's a selection of their tracks i've been lapping up lately like Surround candy 🤤😋🤣

oh well, i didn't think it was particularly brave, it came across as the typical kind of withering remark (some might say threadcrap?) some of us have come to expect from that member over the years! 😂

so in that instant i laughed it off as their usual sorta forum modus operandi, a puffed-up expostulation out of nowhere in a thread to which they'd hitherto contributed just about diddly-squat 😳 drop by, drop a stink bomb and bugger off out of the thread again! nice.. 🤣 but in all fairness it did make me wonder about a potential wider debate 🤔

we know folk at QQ enjoy listening to and posting about a variety of music extending beyond the reach of Quad and the 1970's and the 80's, beyond Prog, beyond Classic Rock, etc.. and there's now absolutely tons of new music streaming in all sorts of genres and styles and languages, "new new" stuff's being released constantly, with a number of excellent examples of Surround mixing going on amongst what i admit is a deluge of offerings! 😅

anyhoo 😅 it's the weekend 🥳🍻 and i'm greatly looking forward to posting here soon about the tracks i've been enjoying in Atmos all week! 👀 i promise to make it short-ish and sweet 🤣

(spoiler alert; some of it maybe unfamiliar to some members and some of it may have even been recorded in the last 12 months! 😱😉😂

peace and love as always ✌️❤️🙌😋🥂😻🙏
We’re seeing a fair amount of new MCH releases (some atmos, some not) from folks on bandcamp, as well as a handful of QQers who actually produce music.

"The Beautiful Blue", angsty 6-track EP with excellent Atmos from East-London Rockers Boy Bleach

Dance-y Electronica from Le Yora

pretty Pop from Leonie Biney "If U Leave Me"

"THE PRESENT", cute Christmas single from Christian artist Forrest Frank

"It'll All Make Sense Later", new Afrobeats album from R&B star Eric Bellinger

That's just my two cents but I've read many others say similar things over here throughout the years. Everything should be welcome on this thread and if anyone feels they're in a position to say this is worthy and that isn't, well, that's their problem I'd say.
I second this. Fractalization of the threads to “what I happen to like atm” by someone else is counterproductive and unsustainable. FWIW I have a wild mix of likes and dislikes that puzzle me sometimes. And I do check out completely unknown to me artists, when it’s peddled enough with otherworldly praise, usually turns out to be garbage but occasional gems.

OTOH nobody prevents anyone from creating their own threads like this one and building the following audience.

the Deluxe version of Indie artist Bathe Alone's "I Dont Do Humidity" adds 3 extra tracks and is a nice way to chill in an Atmos bath for an hour or so, splish splash! 😋💦🫶

a current earworm and a stripped-down new single from South African Singer-Songwriter Tyla that didn't make it on her album that only came out last month for some reason 🤷🏻‍♀️

"The Prodigal", rousing Surround sounds from young Christian artist Josiah Queen 🙌👑🤩

X-factor (TV singing show) contestant and Little Mix member, Perrie Edwards solo single with a spry lil' Christmas number

..and to sign off for now, the incomparable Andrea Boccelli and his new Christmas duet with Sofia Carson of the Classic festive evergreen "White Christmas" 🎅🏻🎄😻👋

I do like the album but as far as I'm concerned I'm not too interested in the Atmos mix to be honest, that's why I went first for a much more complex and layered album like Hemispheres. I mean, the debut is a pretty basic hard rock album by a trio band, not sure if there's a lot to gain by going beyond stereo. I assume most people will give listening priority to the other Rush Atmos mixes released today.
