I noticed a volume difference between Let It Be and playing the Pearl Jam album. I really need to turn the volume up on Ten in comparison. I sure hope this doesn’t mean that The Beatles album is more compressed.
Were you listening to the surround or stereo mixes?

Compression has become one of - if not the most - misunderstood and misused terms in audio these days. Differences in volume don’t necessarily mean anything regarding compression levels. Compression - and often more accurately, hard peak limiting - are just one (two, actually) of the many reasons why one recording could be “louder” than another.

Ask yourself this...did Let It Be sound compressed to you? Particularly if you turned it down to roughly match Ten (or turned Ten up to match)?

Listen, I’m done with you lecturing me, Mr. Know-it-all.

Listening to a few albums from the Spatial Audio JAZZ section in Apple Music via Apple4K TV.
This is Donald Byrd-Byrd In Flight. This is 24/48 Dolby Atmos. Heights work well on this version, but with most of the Jazz releases from Apple they are cool, open and airy, never bombastic.

I’ve upmixed another couple of their albums but listening to the Atmos today is so much better, partly no where near the compression of the CDs she had, but mainly a great discrete mix. I’m going to play it to her next time she visits… I even ripped two LPs to get better dynamics. This one is really nice.

She’s seen them live a few times prior to Covid.

I have been playing around with volume levels, listening to Apple Music Dolby Atmos.
Using the pre/pro volume knob, going from 55 at the low (66db) to 60 at the high (72db) seems to be the sweet zone that best fires the heights, due to the bit streaming of the Apple 4K box.
With a physical Atmos disc or a ripped Atmos disc, I find, this 55-60 range less critical to push the heights, can be done at 45-50 with volume knob.
Just my experience, I have no other experience.

Listening to Dolby Atmos from Apple Music, this is a good Atmos experience, for sure.
How is the movie, I have never watched it?

The movie is really good, defo recommend. It shows what a **** Zuckerberg is. I'm not on Facebook so I can say that. :D

Hopefully some more Trent Reznor soundtracks will get the Atmos treatment? And while I'm not a massive NIN fan I wouldn't be surprised to see The Downward Spiral feature someday. They could do a lot worse by just upmixing the SACD to Atmos...

OK you QQ crazies... did a search on my Win. 10 via Chrome -> Apple music; and it says this title is in Spatial Audio? So either I'm doing something wrong or it doesn't show up properly for me with how I'm using it, but I'll be damned if I can figure out what's Atmos on my computer in Apple Music.

I wont be on my ATV4K till later tonight, so can someone verify if this is Atmos or not (might be pretty good stuff!)
