seems pretty front focused to me, a little underwhelming in a surround sense IMO

I need a new pair of glasses, I read that as twerking Front Heights!!is there a particularly good Atmos track for tweaking Front Heights?
Is that a streaming only Atmos release or is it on disc?JOHNNY CASH
I don't know of any physical disc, never even knew about this title until a couple days ago seeing it on Apple music. Is that a streaming only Atmos release or is it on disc?
Thanks Pup, I think it would be cool for posters here to state where the Atmos file came from. I hate spending 15 minutes searching for a disc that never existed.I don't know of any physical disc, never even knew about this title until a couple days ago seeing it on Apple music.
I discovered this album because of the atmos mix, and slow burn has instantly became one of my favorite songs, and also one of the best atmos mixes of its kind. Listening to the same thing
Any advice Sausage, on how to always know one's listening to an Atmos mix on Apple TV 4K?I discovered this album because of the atmos mix, and slow burn has instantly became one of my favorite songs, and also one of the best atmos mixes of its kind. Listening to the same thing
Your AVR should tell you if the Apple TV 4K output is Atmos. As it streams/decodes an Atmos track my Yamaha RX-A2050 displays “Dolby Atmos” on the front panel, if you have the “info” selector set to “Audio Decoder”. Your AVR may behave differently, but I’m sure there is a way of getting to the audio decoder information.Any advice Sausage, on how to always know one's listening to an Atmos mix on Apple TV 4K?
(some of these mixes -i.e. old Jazz, is so subtle you barely notice the rears in 5.1.)
I think their random menu system and search (UI) is rubbish; and no it doesn't always tell you which songs are Atmos; and once playing the song (from what I see) doesn't even show it as such anywhere on the screen
I purchased the Johnny Cash awhile ago. You can purchase either HDTracks or RBCD, both stereo of course. The Atmos streaming is very good, brings out the orchestra parts better. Is that a streaming only Atmos release or is it on disc?

Further, the Apple TV 4K screen tells you, IFF it is on the right screen. It’s really confusing, but the following screen displays the encoded signal format. See the tiny Atmos logo on the lower right:

Got it. So your system doesn’t decode Atmos. I don’t have direct experience with this. Other Apple TV 4K users have said if your AVR doesn’t decode the Atmos data it will default to 7.1/5.1.Thanks for the reply!
That would be great if my AVR would light it up for Atmos info, except I’m running an old school analog makeshift rig (Oppo analog out to non-HDMI Marantz in 5.1) until I can upgrade. Not ideal for sure, but it will give me some decent surround when the songs are mixed with some verve.
You may have noticed in some of my pics a little Atmos logo lower left. That’s just a watermark image I tinkered with to show how it could be done (hopefully more elegant than that), so there’d be no confusion about it. But I’m sure the 18 year old college drop outs designing this UI believe I should just get off my arse, pay the piper beaucoup bucks and get a modern AVR
well since it's analog out from my oppo (the Apple TV 4K is attached to the "In" HDMI on the back) it must be either the Apple TV 4K down mixing or the oppo, I honestly forget, but it does work. Just not sure how well the height info gets mixed into the 5.1, or at all?Got it. So your system doesn’t decode Atmos. I don’t have direct experience with this. that's it, I remember now- thanks Jonathan! As I understand it, the height information shouldn’t really be thought of as discrete channels. All the elements exist in the 5.1/7.1 bed, but there’s embedded metadata that instructs the decoder to move them further up the vertical plane. If you don’t have Atmos, the height metadata is ignored and everything stays at ground level.
