Watching and listening - Rush - Beyond the Lighted Stage blu ray. A feel good film :sun :friday:
Shoeless Joe (DTS CD).
Never heard of this band but being a 5.1 music disc I had to try it.. well, blow me down, it's excellent!
Very catchy tunes, nice BV's/harmonies (fulsome in the rears, I might add).. clean, spare, spry and jangly pleasant guitar work, very melodious 'lite rock'..
..all wrapped up in a text book 4.1 surround mix (no centre activity I could discern) it does all the right things in all the right speakers at all the right times!
Recommended to the QQ crew!
Opeth - Pale Communion
Sounds great so far.
The Doors - The Very Best of The Doors (SACD)
View attachment 15804
(Another surround compilation - this one from my Doors SACDs - Identical track list to the 2007 CD release 'The Very Best of The Doors' which was never released on SACD)
Holst : The Planets, Andre Previn & the LSO (DTS CD).
Absolutely gorgeous sound quality, a very immersive (Quad) mix and most importantly of all.. mesmerising performances.
Sorry but this does not exist. There is NO Doors best of SACD.
I want this! I can't find it on amazon?
I'm guessing HomerJAU compiled it themselves from the various MultiCh SACDs/DVD-A's..?
Yes. That's correct Adam. I copied individual tracks from my SACDs to make a 'The Very Best Of' album track list. (24/88.2kHz FLACs played from my media player).
I've done similar 'albums' from my Talking Heads and Genesis DVD-As, creating a surround version of a 'Best Of' official CD release. (Basically a recreation from surround tracks from official surround releases).
I also created a DVD-V DTS 5.1 disc for my car audio player for the Talking Heads 'Best Of' (since my car won't play DVD-As).

Very cool indeed Garry!
I've never understood why the labels didn't do just this back in the day and release compilations for artists where they'd remixed all or virtually all of their back catalogue in Hi-Res/surround..
To be fair, Universal did the Marvin Gaye compilation (very cool.. I love it.. it could've been more comprehensive though I suspect its brevity due to combination of disc storage space with its DTS CD origins, as well as possibility of unavailable multitracks?).. and there were The Carpenters, The Police, Seal, Era, R.E.M., Lee Ann Womack, Gloria Estefan, Al Green surround compilations too of course.. and the Rory Gallagher comp, fwiw..
..just think, we could have had hits compilations of artists as diverse (and popular) as Genesis, Bjork, The Moodies, Talking Heads, The Doors, Depeche Mode..
..and if the labels had done a proper job of the surround catalogues of Dylan, Elton, Queen, Bowie, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, The Doobies, Eagles, Chicago, Foreigner, Grateful Dead, Clapton, James Taylor, Roxy Music, Bon Jovi, Rush - can you imagine surround compilations by those guys!?
