Cornelius "Five Point One" and "Sensuround" DVD DTS 96/24

Inspired by some of the comments on the Bob Clearmountain surround mix of Bob Marley's Legend album; I'm here listening to another Clearmountain surround mix that may have not been as noticed...

Goin' Your Way live bluray by Neil Finn (Split Enz, Crowded House fame) and Paul Kelly. The surround track is in 96kHz 24bit DTS-MA HD, while the stereo is a disappointing Dolby AC3 only. As you would expect, the magnificent surround track is the go. I have listened to it a few times and every time the audio detail sucks me in.

I was really curious about this one as I really like Neil Finn's music and liked what Stupy had to say so started checking the Amazon's and I noticed that Amazon.ca had the boxset(2 cd,dvd and bluray) it was a bit more pricey than I would want to pay but I really wanted to hear this mix so placed order. Got the disk pretty quick.
People if you like Neil Finn and Paul Kelly is no slouch either(has put out some great music), this one is a winner. Bob Clearmountain has done a lovely mix for this, it is very front centrec but the clarity of the mix is outstanding.
The vocals are so clear and the songs chosen for this concert are outstanding. This is a fantastic 2 hour concert.
I am using a Oppo 103 and the bluray plays no problem. The included dvd does not play as says wrong region.
I will try this bluray on another bluray player to see if it plays as well, I think the bluray is coded region b but is set to all regions, not sure why it works as I have some other region b blurays and they don't play on the same Oppo.
I will try to do some more checking for us North American folks.

Track this one down I don't think people will be disappointed, this one is in my top 10 for concerts, I really enjoyed it.

Where did you buy this?I can't find it.

Direct from the record label (Big-O), they're saying its a pre-order out on the 27th of January but it must already be shipping as a few of us here on QQ have received theirs already.

Fyi, just a heads up in case it affects your purchasing decision, it's a BD-R and the 5.1 is in Dolby Digital @48k, so you're buying lossy only and a burned disc at that rather than a pressed one.. still a very nice surround mix imho and sounds best you're ever gonna get Dolby D., I reckon.

BAP - Sonx - SACD

I don't normally have a problem with these surround discs in foreign languages (got quite a few now, out and out love some of them.. Serge Gainsbourg, Johnny Hallyday, Jacques Brel, Dana Winner, Badi Assad, Caetano Veloso, Elis Regina.. All fantastic!) but I've tried the samples of Bap/Sonx on iTunes and I just can't get past all the ugly bloody Flemish (or whateverish it is!?) language they're singing in! Still, saves me a few quid (quite a few quid!) :p

Did anyone else see this excellent documentary? It contains some terrific archival footage of Luther and co. rehearsing and recording the album with David. Great stuff.

I didn't sadly no, was there any footage specifically showing the studio setup/layout Tony Visconti described during the Young Americans sessions of Bowie (having insisted on recording his lead vocals live with the rest of the musicians, apparently throwing Tony V into turmoil after he'd spent forever getting everything setup just how he wanted it) stood slap bang in the middle of the studio between two partitions with a mic in phase and another out of phase to cancel out all sounds but Bowie's lead vox.? That I'd love to see!

Ha! That's marvelous. No, I don't believe there was any footage specific to that but Visconti is interviewed along with some other major collaborators including Ken Scott, Earl Slick, Robert Fripp, Eno and Rick Wakeman. But perhaps my favorites bits were with the wonderful Carlos Alomar who, of course, had a lot to do with shaping the sound of Young Americans including (if I recall correctly) securing the services of Luther and the other singers.

Indeed it would be sweet..

Saturday, I was in Chicago in a taxi. The driver (who assumed I didn't know Barry White music) was playing some 70's Barry White from a CD in his cab. He was sort of rambling about the music style (without making reference to who it was) and once the "Voice" kicked in...I said "That's Barry White"!

From that point forward, we had an excellent discussion about how amazing he was and really there is absolutely NO ONE who can hold a candle to his voice or style. Once he died........his style died. No replacement...no where.
