Surround mix is good on which? Botti or the Fygi??

Night Sessions - Chris Botti (SACD).

Oo-er..!! compared to the very crankable/subtle Laura Fygi, It's a bit loud.. but a bit good!

Surround mix is... OUTSTANDING.

another one I've just unwrapped.. I've been waiting to get the time to properly be able to sit down with a beer, crank my system up and let rip with all these surround things I've been hoovering up the last few months.. well worth the wait, so far not a duffer in the bunch.

:woopie

The Chris Botti.

The Fygi 5.1 is very nice, though fidelity is its strongest point, as I said before its an impeccable recording.

The Botti surround mix is in a different league though, with an exceptional surround soundfield and easily one of the best surround mixes I've come across in a good while.

I was grinning from ear to ear throughout the whole thing - it's unmissable.

Very good to hear...I will buy some Botti...saw him a dozen years ago in West Bend, WI at a jazz festival. He was a nobody at the time, but totally stole the night...WOW!!

Aerosmith -TITA SACD...not bad a mix...definitely a new mix...although as always(I apologize for sounding like a scratched record(click)-ecord(click)-ecord....) I'm absolutely sure this has NOTHING above 22-23K..still glad we got a MCH SACD...and a bonus it being a different mix than the LP....and a good one at that....
LONG LIVE SURROUND!!!!

ahh.. nice one Kap'n (y)

I've not played this one for ages! I'll give it a spin today! :p

...and now for the syrupy side...

Julieta Venegas- "Limón y Sal" (I love her!)DVD-V ...great pop ...not bad sounding for a Dullbee 5.1 mix

Breezin' - George Benson (DVD-A).

Thanks to LizardKing for reminding me about this one, I'm giving it a play around and seeing if I like it any better after all these years.. it's still got that slightly murky quality to the whole thing and drums still have that cardboard-y quality in the mids and vocals too much reverb in the rears for my liking.. it still sounds like GB is in a tunnel when he sings on This Masquerade.. still I'm enjoying it more now than I recall.

Maybe I should give other things I dismissed another try today... and when all's said and done it's still a smokin classic album :smokin

Bach: The Four Great Toccatas and Fugues - E. Power Biggs (SACD).

HOW MUCH BETTER IS THIS WITH THE CENTRE CHANNEL SWITCHED OFF..!!!?!??!??

W-O-W-Z-E-R-S

(yes I'm shouting, sorry, only you see I have it cranked up very loud.. and you wouldn't hear me otherwise..!!!)

Yeeeeeee-Haaaaaaaaa..!!!!

:wave

3 + 3 - The Isley Brothers (SACD).

Oh how I ADORE this disc.. switch off the centre speaker and the phantom centre imaging is staggeringly good on this mix.

If you know anyone who says "Hi-Rez surround music is a waste of time" sit them in the sweet spot, blast 'em with all four glorious channels of this and watch their jaw well and truly DROP :yikes

:51banana:

Jasmine Nightdreams - Edgar Winter (DTS CD).

Still one of the most out and out FUN surround music mixes I've ever heard!!

My rears never seen so much action! :yikes

Plus if you like it when a quad mix goes wild with all that circular panning jazzapalooza.. you're in for a major treat with this one, it happens just enough not to drive you totally crazy but still take you on a rollercoaster sky train ride to who knows where! (*)

(oh and it's another old quad mix transfer where you must shut the centre channel off to fully get the true picture - reference quad on a cheap DTS disc eh.. who knew..!?!?).

time for a

(* I may or may not have enjoyed one too many bev-er-arges this afternoon! Hic!)

Captain Fantastic - Elton (SACD).

Back to the old faithful.. probably my most played SACD (and I've now got over 300) and for me the best of the Elton 5.1's.

I doubt anyone on here doesn't have it already but just in case you don't, you have to get it.
Greg Penny did an especially awesome surround job on this one!

yyup, I will repeat myself again...this is one of those DVD-As that sounds flatter than a pancake...and as you well put it, "murky"....
Guessing the Multis were not n the best condition and they were afraid to jack up the EQ or go overboard...
Hey,as I always say, at least we got it in MCH..it's one of those that I have in the backburner to reauthor and EQ to make it sound ...NORMAL!!!

Cheers!
:friday:

Genesis-S/T (1982) DTS DVD-V..saw them on this tour...they only had VariLites!!!! (hey they were the owners of the company!)

Winelight - Grover Washington, Jr. (DVD-Audio).

Quite possibly the best Elliot Scheiner 5.1 mix I've heard (though I think I've heard everything of his that's been released.. that's apart from anything he's mixed that remains unreleased up until now, of course..!) and he's done a lot of true gems, so that's saying something. the DVD-A's an out and out delight.. and its an album I never grow tired of. :sun

dang! another one on my wishlist!...

Yes it is a fine DVD audio. Excellent mix with very discrete sound. Winelight is a favourite...

Boys and Girls - Bryan Ferry (SACD).

oh you little beauty, you! you're so yummy I just want to eat you!

absolutely astounding 5.1 mix, very active but so beautifully tastefully done.. extraordinary.. and sublime fidelity.

still one of the very very best surround rock/pop SACDs I've ever heard.. and there's been a few!! :p

Jethro Tull Thick as a Brick. Just arrived in the mail from Burning Shed... so far so good.

Ok: finished side one and almost through side 2. This thing should not be legal. If ever there was an album to convince naysayers they should invest in a quality 5.1 system this is it. I'm thinking it's right there with Pink Floyd DSOTM... WOW
