Phil Lesh & Friends - There And Back Again (MultiCh SACD).

finally got this.. been on my sa-cd.net wishlist around 5 years..

...interesting surround mix, much more active than I was expecting.. rears are nice and full with (slightly overloud/not the best-sung) backing vocals, guitar crunches, bit of slide guitar, organ trills.. slightly "by-the-numbers" musically but I rather like it.. it's got a slick yet rough 'n ready quality all at the same time (like a Dire Straits' LP!) there's a kind of funky ramshackle air of accomplishment about it! slick but not sterile.

is there a QQ Poll for this?

Listening to this again for the first time in ages and rather enjoying it.. not a barnstorming album and the mix reflects that, it's discrete with plenty of rear info and EC's voice is gorgeous in the centre but its all suitably subtle and downplayed, no pyrotechnics.

not to damn this one with faint praise.. but when I'm in the mood for some surround EC I still prefer just about everything else over this.. mostly because his other albums mixed in surround have some of the most wonderful mixes going (461 OB SACD, There's 1 in Every Crowd DTS CD, Reptile/Back Home/Ridin' With The King DVDA's are all amazing!) but this is still worth checking out if you don't have it (and looking around its still cheap & plentiful) (y)

I want that one too.... Did it have a nice gold slipcase?

I see you've got the Al Green DVD-A as your new avatar, LK, what do you think of it? I've seen it get a bit of bashing over the years (in all fairness I've never heard the quad which is said to be superior) but I really enjoy it, great sound "despite" the 48k sound (blah!) and the mix isn't bad at all. Music's not bad either ;)

I don't get why people berate this (and the other Klingberg/Kellogg 5.1's on Rhino DVD-A) so much! it's not perfect but the highs definitively outweigh the lows on this one.

Well come on back to Missouri. It's 95* and 64% RH...

It's 12:00 noon and I just got back from cutting and splitting a rick of oak...Aah...That's with an ax, sledge and wedge.
